EWU 52 @ UW 59 Prediction Thread Week 3

Based on the last 3 PAC 12 opponents we have played I think the game will be close. We will score points, and I think it will be at least 35. Can our D make enough stops to hang on, I'm not sure but it will be fun to watch.

By the way, if we win this game Beau will be getting legitimate big time coaching offers at the end of the season.

The Huskies close game against Hawaii was the worst thing that could have happened as far as the Eagles are concerned. That was their wake up call and I am sure Peterson will have their attention in game preparation for our game this week.
They will NOT be overlooking the Eagles but more like wanting to make a statement as to who they are.
If you've ever heard the judge say " I need to make an example of you" you know what I mean!
I had thought we had a 25% chance of winning but an afraid that went down to 10%.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. We would have been better off with the Huskies pulling out a two or three touchdown win. The line was UW by 18 versus Hawaii, and last I heard, the line against us was UW by 16 (which I take as a compliment, considering we are playing UW on their home turf). That being said, I doubt with the way we played the Huskies a couple of years ago, and pulled off the upset of OSU last year, that they would have been taking us too lightly coming into this game. But the Hawaii game will definitely add more fuel to their fire.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. If we somehow win this game, it will open the floodgates for EWU recruiting. First we get national exposure on ESPN, next we beat the team considered the "Big Brother" in Washington football.

UW won't be overlooking the Eag's. I ask myself, did Petersen and staff overlook Hawaii? Don't believe so. A fair conclusion would be that the players are struggling understanding the scheme at game speed and with another probable change at QB this week, don't expect them to perform much better on offense. I still believe this game will be won or lost in the heads of the players not strictly on their physical attributes. Given that, Coach Baldwin will focus on what we do well and have the team prepared mentally to play. Emotions can only help any team for so long, then reality sets in. For the Eags, reality is what we make it. Petersen may be telling his players the same thing, but IMO Husky arrogance won't let them truly believe in the need to play UP to beat EWU. The Eag's offense will execute and the defense will give UW's offense enough chances to make mistakes. Coin flip.

Good thoughts. And we're certainly not going to be intimidated by who were playing or the stadium.

Looks like Lindquist's career was one and done. Cyler Miles was named the starter today.

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/huskyfootball/2014/09/01/cyler-miles-to-start-at-quarterback-in-huskies-home-opener-against-eastern-washington/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you don't have a subscription (pfft) and get stuck behind a pay wall, just right click and open the link in Incognito mode, it bypasses most pay walls (except for the NYTimes style where you have to login).

I think this would have been the case no matter what happened against Hawaii.

It wouldn't surprise me if the huskies line up in a double tight-I formation and simply try to run over our defense.

This is what I'd do too... Not sure about needing to go out of the I, but I'd run it 80%of the time against Eastern.

Well, the factors for me that seem to be important for Eastern to play with UW are:

QB - While Miles may be way better than Lindquist, he is not that much more experienced as far as game starts go. He does have veteran receivers though. Looking for McDonald to have another impact type game for the Eagles, and for Hoffman to begin to shine.

OL - Much bigger than SHSU line, but probably less talent at running back. This will be a huge challenge for Eastern.

DBs - Here is our potential advantage, if our OL can give Vernon some time against a very experienced UW offensive line. I think Our QB and receivers can have a field day against a very young defensive backfield. Hawaii was terrible and they still had some success passing.

So, a glimmer of hope for me. We've got six tickets to sit with the Eastern faithful on Saturday, and can't wait.

I don't think we'll kick any field goals, so my Eagle biased prediction is EWU 35, UW 30.

When our defense is ready for the run, they are STOUT. ZZ put up 71 yards as the #2 rusher in the league last year. West only had 115 yards. It's when the defense is running around without focus are big plays given up.
49-46 EWU...just like last year.

I'm going to wear a "Fresh Meat" sign around my neck and walk up and down Aurora Avenue if Sam Houston State has better talent at RB than Udub.

I think UW wins rather easily. Say 34-17?

It says something about the huskies that you and UDUB can only talk trash to a team a division below you. It says two things, actually:

1) Your team really sucks.

2) We're making you sweat.
