Horrible timeout call

Backup qb 2 seconds left. clock starts when the ball is spotted.

We want to think about it?

Serious?
You have a timeout to kill make sure everyone is on the same page and that everyone is in that needs to be.

Seriously!

You are already in a prevent. They've already called a play with the assertion they have 12 seconds left, and if they get the first down, they get their QB back. All that is has changed and they must line up and go.

All the timeout does is give them a chance to change the play call.

OK, now that I can settle down. Game balls to the defense and special teams. Nice to know that we can win a game that way on the road. Hopefully Adams learned some things about how to run the offense and Best knows better what to call for him.

Lots of good in this game.

Best special teams play in an EWU game in a long time. Kick coverage inside the 20, and a blocked punt for a TD. We can probably work on pinning punts down inside the 20, but in all honesty Beau doesn't do that very often. When we get on their side of the 50 it is usually 4 down time.

The secondary had quite a few coverage sacks. Ena and Pulu cleaned up. Hamlin is have an outstanding season.

The running game was there today. It takes a while to get going, but if you stick with it you get the benefits in the second half.

Adams had some nice throws. The first pass of the game was catchable. He had one pick on a deflection, and one on a ball he should not have thrown. He missed on a few others. Watching the TV you can't see the coverages, so I have to assume the defense was bracketing Kauf and Edwards. We're use to the high octane passing game, so a more balanced offense may take some getting use to. I like Adams raw skills. Strong arm, good speed and agility, and can run when he needs to. A lot like Magee. Yes, he will make some mistakes. Padron is a very good QB too, but from what I saw against Idaho and WSU, not really a great deal more accurate than Adams. I trust the coaches ability in judging QB's to put the correct one on the field. They have a great track record with that.

Great win, another one of those snatching victory from the jaws of defeat come-back wins. I am concerned about how little our offense did today. Adams was not really effective at all and I agree with the sentiments of our defense and special teams really stepping up to play.

I love Adams and his approach to the game and passions, but I'm still not convinced that RIGHT NOW as a RS Freshman he's "the man" when we have a capable back-up that could have stepped in and given a chance. This was his biggest game this far, and he was clearly rattled throughout most of the game.

I do believe that he's the QB of the future, but what's the rush? Give him time to develop under an experienced QB and if Padron can't get it done put Adams back in. I'd like to see the QB battle open up a little more after this game. Just my :twocents:

Agreed with this post and FreeBird's. I don't know what the solution is, as long as we keep winning I don't care. GO EAGS!!!

Defense had a hell of a performance today!

One other thing about the defense. They are starting to remind me of the 2010 defense with guys flying all around and swarming to the ball. They definitely have that stingy "attitude" thing goin on.

Additionally, I'm going to go on record and say that Hamlin must be the most under-rated defensive player in the Big Sky. He led the team in tackles last season and the guy just flies around the field and it seems like he is everywhere the ball is. Great play today by all the linebackers, though. Williams had a great game and it was nice to see McCarthy back in there as well along with Washburn. Now if we can just get Johnson back at some point this season. Seems like he's been hurt forever...

great win despite HORRIBLE offensive game plan and execution!!!!!!!!!!! DEFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS WON THIS ONE!!!!!
Exactly.
Adams is still learning so he will not make same decisions in the future. I wish I knew why he kept throwing the long ball when he could not hit the receivers. I wonder why we did not throw more short to medium passes. Our receivers are really good at YAK but if we keep throwing over their heads they do not get that chance.
After their missed FG I said to the Bobcat next to me I'll bet we see a lot of #30 now. Didn't happen. At that point 1 first down ends the game. Coverage of Kaufman and Edwards was soft at the line, defenders were always giving 8-10 yds cushion.
Maybe" someone "could bring it up in the radio show on Monday??
Really ugly win but I'll take it any way it is given to us.
Offense owes the D and special teams big time for this game.
And... unis looked great!!

I loved the black helmets and black pants... looked sharp today! D and ST definitely sealed the deal for us today. A win is a win though... we still have plenty to improve on. Toughest team left on our schedule is CP, then, SUU. We win both of those, I don't see how we're not 10-1 and a top 3 seed.

i agree that he is still learning and he obviously has the talent to be a great qb in the long term but he was completely lost in this game! With the weapons we have a WR getting Kaufman the ball one time for 8 yards is unnacceptable!!! at this point in his career vernon has enough raw talent take over against a team like UND but not a MSU. I agree with Ranger that you build for the future but give Padron a chance to be the starter until Adams proves he can play on a consistent basis and not just at home! our offense was dreadful today minus some nice run plays, never connected on any long balls once and overthrew every single one of them!!! thats on the QB!!

Coach Ash was lamenting what should have been. He was highly complementary of the defense and very disappointed in the offense.
I have to agree. Part of the reason our offense looked so bad was their defense did a good job.
Look at the gifts we received during this game-
Fantom center snap and we take over on their 25 or so= FG
blocked punt for TD
pick six for TD
So our offense earns 1 td and 1 fg
Lucky lucky lucky Eagles this game.

Agree, worst offensive showing of the year. 6 punts, 2 INTs, 40% completion, No rushing yardage. #2 lost his job by throwing for 379 yards against a FBS team. What happens this week? Hopefully Sac St is another N Dakota and the offense can beat up on a crappy defense. A win is a win, but this was terrible offensive football. BTW, WSU would kill MSU.

I gotta say, I don't get it. Some of us on here are really that upset about the way we won but are missing the fact that we WON! EWU just went to Bozeman, beat the #2 team in the country in a game that was being called "the game of the century" by Cat fans. Not to mention, our team did that with a less than average performance by the offense, being run by a redshirt freshman QB!! Oh and by the way, that's the first time in EWU football history that we've beat both Montana schools in the same season!

I personably could not be happier about this W! It showed that we don't have to rely on our offense to win games! They'll step up and get better every week just like Adams will. But our defense and special teams are for real and that is more exciting than anything else! We should be proud of our team for finding a way to win the game cause that's what championship teams do!

We need to calm down and realize that our coaching staff will fix whats broken and we'll be ready next week! For now, enjoy the win and let's get ready for Sac State!

Go Eagles!!!

Well-said. :notworthy:

Sorry, I was mistaken, it's not the first time in history beating both Montana schools, but it's the first time since 2005 and we are also 4-0 in Big Sky play for the first time in school history! :thumb:

Well said, and great post. Although that's not the first time we've beaten both Montana schools in the same season. We did it in 1948, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1992, and 2005.
