EWU Eagles: conference opener

Aside from the first 5 minutes, I think we are turning the corner. I thought Joel didn't force to much and let the game come to him. I like the line up change. I think it worked well for JRich, Senglin and Gittens. Jeremy needs a little work defending the high pick and roll switch. I thought JRich did a good job on Harvey at the end of the first half.

I am not a huge Hayford fan, but I thought he responded to our defensive changes on the high pick and roll by utilizing Jois off of the screen in the 2nd half. Jois maybe the hardest big to defend in the Big Sky. Other than an early forced 3 by Davion, I think we had some good looks from three. We don't have the great off screen shooter like we had last year in Bam. Most teams don't. We are a very hard team to defend when things are clicking. We are the type of team that can have 7 different leading scorers depending on the night.

I liked the lineup change. Senglin and Gittens play off each other quite well. Now we need to get Berry back on track. I'm thinking that the PSU game will be big for Berry. PSU must be in shock after losing big to ISU. I'm really glad to see ISU doing better. Teams are not going to be able to concentrate all of their efforts on us when making that road trip, as they did in the past.

Eastern Washington seems to be much improved over last year, with virtually the same group of players. They have the size and the athletes to make some noise in the BSC this year and for the next couple of years. What they don't have is depth. We were able to run them a little bit because their starters had to pull too many minutes. Their three subs were 0-fers. That could take a tole on them as the season progresses. It will be interesting to see how they are doing in February. :coffee:

Looking forward to Saturday with hopes we don't look like we've never played the game for the first 5 minutes. Love to see some momentum carry over...

Haha, we're you sitting close enough that you heard me say nearly the same thing? My exact quote somewhere around the 6-7 minute mark was, "My hell, why do we look so lost offensively? We cross half-court and look like we've never played the game before."

Last thing -- Gittens early dunk, oh my!

No doubt! Senglin threw a nice one down too. Hill's alley-oop was the hat trick! :notworthy:
