EWU in the National Championship!

Congrats to the Eagles for dropping 'Nova last night! That was a hell of a game and a bit surprising considering they didn't have Taiwon Jones for the game. It's awesome to see a different 'Sky team besides Montana make it all the way through. Just another reminder we play in the best or at least 2nd beast conference in the country. AND FOLKS THINK ABOUT THIS: WE LOST TO EW BY 7 POINTS. We're not that far off!

That's awesome! We actually would have won that game if we didn't have one of our late 4th quarter breakdowns.

A lot of people on this board keep saying that we don't have the athletes to be competitive (like people saying our O-line sucks, etc.) but I think this proves that isn't the case. There is no way that we could have been that close in that game if we were so clearly outclassed. In my opinion, that pretty much blows any theory that we don't have the talent to win at this level and shows that with the right coaches, we could be instantly competitive.

Anyhow, I always hoped Montana would lose when it was in the playoffs but the Eastern fans aren't too bad so I'm hoping they can pull it off! They are kind of like our sister school in Washington--a directional school that plays third fiddle to the Big 2! Although, I think we drew more fans when we were a D-II in the playoffs than Eastern is drawing during its D-I title run.

yeah, if I recall correctly that's the game were we had the lead in the 4th, but they came back to tie it and then Orms fumbled the ball away and they picked up and scored very late in the game. We aren't that far people!
And JJJJ is correct, EW doesn't have a great following. They have that red turf that brought people out this yea but I've watched their playoff games this year and I'm pretty sure they don't get over 5,000 people. That's too bad. They have a good program. Once we start winning we'll average 8,000 again, just like the glory days. :D

UNC definitely has the talent to win in the Big Sky. Last year your offensive line didn't hold up in key times. Your offensive line is talented and will get better but they were young and inexperienced.

It all depends on how the team handles the coaching change and can get up to speed.

Hopefully we'll keep a handful of assistants to help the transition.

Thanks fellas. I think UNC's program is one the rise. You seem to have some good athletes and I expect you'll compete next season. We were lucky as hell to get out of Greeley with a win this year. Looking forward to next year's game at the inferno.

For anyone who's interested, here's a video promoting the NC game.

EWU is doing this with a coach that is making a base salary of $1000,000 (plus incentives). That's not much more than what Downing got and it's probably what the new coach will make. They also have about the same fan base. It can be done in Greeley too.

I agree that EWU is a model we could/should and can follow...

The schools have similar demographics in fact I'd bet UNC is ranked higher academically and for sure has a larger enrollment and a larger endowment.

There are resources there if the program could start to win a little, generate excitement, no doubt in my mind we could draw 8,500 a game and that would put us in the middle of the pack.

"We were lucky as hell to get out of Greeley with a win this year."

If only Taiwan Jones hadn't played in the UNC game we might have had that one. Would have liked to have had the kid from Heritage HS in Littleton on our team too.

Props to EW! Way to fight to the end!

I was wondering, in the 4th quarter with the crucial 1st down controversy, if UNC's coaches would have fought as hard as the coach from Delaware did to get the call reversed?

Guess where one of EWU top receivers is from? Denver!

Did we offer Kauffman? I believe it was Fed Up that said we offered at least a partial to all the kids who left for other Big SKy schools. Brandon Kauffman and Bo Bolen should be wearing a Bears uniform.

I remember an interview on tv with Kaufman after the UNC/EW game at Nottingham. He said UNC only offered him either a preferred walk-on or a gray shirt, I can't remember which one. That's why he went to EW. He said that beating UNC was very satisfying for him because of, in his mind, UNC's lack of respect for his talent.

I got the impression from his interview that had UNC offered a regular scholarship, he would have come here. He had something like 75 people (friends and familly) at the UNC game.
