EWU O-Line

How does the Offensive line look, not talking about freshman Offensive Lineman, how do the #1 front 5 look from tackle to tackle? Who will be leading that offensive line?

Right tackle is still a question mark with the graduation of Thomas and the overall depth is still to be determined but that is just sorting out whom is going to step up. I think Caleb Worthington, Brandon Murphy, and Steven Forgette are the young guys pushing for the first string. The starters are Gabe Jackson (LT), Nikolia Myers (LG), Chris Powers (C), and one of the previously mentioned 3 for the RG and RT spots. Go Eagles!!!

I forgot to mention that RG will most likely be Will Post. So RT is the side that it up in the air but look for one of above to lock that down. Go Eagles!!!

The O-line will be much improved , bigger, stronger and one year wiser ! The battles will be on the right side of the line where we might see a freshman earn his way in . These returning lineman have put in tons of off-season work and are noticably bigger and wider up front. Look for Coach Best to want to use the run to set up the pass this year instead of the other way around ! It will be alot tougher to defend the offense this year with so many weapons at there disposal !This group of young men have the chance to be something special in the fall !! GO EAGLES !!

Thanks for the updates on the o-line. I'm hoping to get out to a practice sometime in the next week but as we all know, sometimes life gets in the way.

@eagle1 and flying nail:
I like the idea of having some young competition. If a redshirt freshman beats out a senior, great. We need to get back to the O-line tradition of playing with a chip on your shoulder and a nasty attitude, and that means cultivating the mentality with the up and coming young guys. I know some of the vets have figured it out but it will really be up to them to take ownership of this season and teach the younger players what is expected to play O-line here. Does anybody know if there have been any fights/scuffles between O and D line players this spring? Nothing like a little scrap to get the fire started hahaha.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing us get back into having a dominant o-line and consistent 1000+ rushers. Back in the 90's we seemed to be more of a smash-mouth type offense known for our mean o-line and speedy backs. That sort of gave way to the more West Coast finesse-oriented offense we have seen the past few years dating back to Meyer or Blankenship. While we are always able to put up the yards and points, I think what we have been lacking the past several years is the ability to grind out a game once we are ahead. Scoring td's in 2 or 3 plays is always great, but I think we can all agree that we've seen way to many shoot-out type scenarios where we are not able to make sustained drives and let the opposing team get back into a game that could have been put away if we were able to make some sustained drives.

Of course, along with the line you need a back that is able to make multiple carries. Jones was sensational last year, but his durability was questionable, especially late in the season. It'd be nice to a #2 or #3 rb that can step in to compliment Jones and get 3-4 yards a carry.
