EWU @ Sac

26-22 Sac leads at the half. Dickson hit a 3 point circus shot at the buzzer. Unfortunately it has been a ugly first half by both teams, I’m tempted to gouge out my eyes so I don’t have to watch the rest of this. No one has have found their stroke on either team. Dickson has led the scoring for the Hornets. Sloppy passing by the Hornets has led to turnovers and easy points for EWU. Both teams are struggling to make long field goals. The Hornets have really made some poor shot selections in the first half. I have no idea how EWU knocked off NAU on the road. I believe the Hornets have been perfect from the FT line thus far.

HORNETS WIN!!!! 57-55. The Hornets pissed away an 11 point second half lead in this one. The Hornets had a ton of stupid turnovers and poor shots when they held the lead. That poor play almost allowed them to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory once again. The Hornets forgot how to rebound in the last 10 minutes. Fortunately Duro hit a desperation layup with 1.1 seconds left. Hopefully this gets the monkey off their back and they can rattle off a couple more wins. Let's enjoy this win, there won't be many more this season.

I did like the full court press which was a nice change of pace. Hopefully Katz continues to use this.

It was very exciting at the Hornets Nest, SDH. A very good sized crowd too. Bausley and a couple other ex-Hornets (maybe Leath) were there. Wanless got the fans on our side of the court to stand up in those last tense minutes. The place can get pretty loud. I was afraid if it went to O.T. that we'd lose again, but we were able to grind this one out. We really lucked out. Toles Bey had a pretty bad game overall, but Jackson, N'Diaye and Dickson played well and Duro, Carbajal and Hoffman were okay. I also like the press and we do a pretty good job with it and were getting better the longer we employed it. Bring on the Bengals!

I caught the last play of the game. When I logged on I noticed the nice sized crowd. Then I noticed the score and us running our last last possession play--STB bounce, bounce, bounce while everyone else stand around. Then I saw him get into trouble again and said 'well here we go..." But when he casted up that prayer and Duro got the put back. I was 'Yes!'...

Glad it didn't go in to overtime. The team needed that one. Sometimes you have to win ugly. But it seems we hung around and caught a break at the end. I've seen enough teams do that to us so it's good to get our turn. Now if we beat ISU, split with PSU and take one of those home games vs NAU and Weber St we have a ligitimate shot at the conference tournament. GO HORNETS!

I was ecstatic to see the score on the ESPNU bottom line during the NMSU-USU game last night.

Incidentally, I was at the UOP-Davis game. From what I saw during UOP's 3-point never-ending barrage, Causeway will be a VERY winnable game for Sac. If Sac gets hot from three early, look for a Sac blowout. The crowd gets demoralized very easily, and the Ags have problems sustaining comebacks.

Yeah I noticed that too. No play was ready by Katz, it was another “just give it to TB and see what happens” play that finally went out way. Fortunately his “pass” was right on target and Duro put it in before the buzzer.

A couple of my observations:
  • • The Hornets went an impressive 14-17 from the FT line.
    • I too noticed the crowd and the box score says 855 showed up. Nice turnout, hopefully some of these folks will show up at the next home games.
    • The Hornets held Dean and Forbes scoreless from the field. Their combined 6 points were from the FT line.
    • I never want to see Alpha miss another point blank dunk again. There is no excuse for missing an uncontested dunk by someone with his athleticism.
    • If Katz is going to use the press for a significant amount of time in a game, he will need to rotate fresh legs into the game. Groom didn’t see any playing time which makes no sense in a full court press game plan. A spark off the bench could have put this game away in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.
    • EWU’s baseball pass at the end of the game was too clean. Katz needs to ALWAYS defend the inbound pass in those situations, just ask Rick Pitino.

The next 3 games are at home against ISU, @ PSU, then home against PSU. All are winnable games and hopefully they can use the EWU win for some momentum to get things going the next couple of weeks.

Our problems are solved!!! I just figured it out. When Katz gets run out of Sac State, SD should take the job. SD has all the answers.

While I'm not ready to blow Katz out, I wouldn't mind putting SD in. But we might do better with SD in charge of the football team....

 That’s not happening.

Earle, Katz won’t have to worry about getting run out of Sac State if he wins. There is plenty of time to get things together and turn it around. At this point, the BSC tournament is still a possibility.

is there a scheduled rematch, or looking ahead to next year:
UC-Davis
Tue, Nov 23 at Sacramento St. W 61-54

i was at the Davis-UOP game too.....uggh....was that a horrible showing. UOP hit 70% from beyond the arc and i bet they got offensive boards on the few that they missed.
