EWU - UNC prediction thread

Coming off a nice road win, Eastern should continue the momentum and win this one going away.

UNC is winless on the year, including a loss to an NAIA school. Appears they are playing a lot of freshman and sophmores. I don't see UNC keeping up in this game and we get up big with our passing game and coast in the 2nd half.

UNC did give us fits last year until we won it late though...

Good week to get some injured players back and heal up on some other injuries.

EASTERN - 41
UNC - 10

Why 10? I hope the defense is going for a shutout. This is exactly the type of team and game where upsets are made. Granted their record looks bad but when a team gets some confidence and is allowed to hang around weird things can happen. Lets hit 'em fast and hard and get lots of different players on the field for some well earned playing time.
I would like to see a backup QB get on the field and see what they can do.
Eagles 35
Bears 0

As with every other game this season, if we take UNC lightly, we will lose. They are a struggling team, but so are we, and any team can beat any other team in this conference. We need to treat this game just like if we were playing the upper third of the Big Sky. That said, if UNC's secondary doesn't come to play, they could be in for a lomg game, as Mitchell and the recievers are really hitting on all cylinders.

EWU - 28
UNC - 17

Wow, what has happened to the following/ posting rate on this site? It's like 90% of us have gone to sleep. These men have been playing their tails off all year, some getting the "opportunity" to move around quite a bit to help the team. Those are the ones that I really want to tip my hat to...learning an entirely new position and stepping up to fill an important cog in the wheel that keeps us moving forward. I am looking forward to a full house this coming weekend as a culmination of Homecoming week. The coaching staff deserves a huge amount of credit for getting these men up to speed and ready to perform at the level they have. I have been impressed with what they have been able to pull off. There are probably less than a handful of teams nationwide that have experienced the level of injuries that we have. The hearts of these men have truly come to the forefront in these times. I am proud to be associated with such a special group of coaches and players. Looking forward to a great game this weekend, and praying for no more injuries. Let's get out there and cheer them on!!!

GO EAGLES !!!!

Given whats happened it truly is impressive we still have a shot at the playoffs with a solid run to end the season. Now I'm far from writing off this season just yet, but we've gotta be excited about the potential of this team over the next few years. I thought this would be our last great year for a while, but I think we're gonna have a pretty mean team over the next couple of years. We'll have some growing pains for sure at QB but we have a stud on our hands at RB and our experienced (and excellent) WRs will help make the transition less painful than it usually would be.

But thank God we depth, which is a rare commodity at the IAA level.

Stadium will be a ghost town this weekend even with homecoming ! 2 teams with losing records, strong south winds and rain in the forecast ,most of Spokane will be at the mall ! Win and they will come, lose and it's back to the same old EWU ! Playoffs ? did you say Playoffs ? I dont think so !

Yeah, the playoff talk makes me nauseous. The problem was that there was too much playoff talk BS going around even as we went 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, and then 0-4. There was no sense of urgency when it came to making plays like we saw in the stretch run last year. Losing to Montana when they practically tried to gift wrap it for us still makes me sick to think about. And you sure can't blame the coaches, becasue they had us in a position to win every game thus far, but the team didn't make the plays.

Right now, we just need to concentrate on picking off games one by one. We still have to go to Sac State in two weeks, and Northern Colorado was within 3 minutes of beating us last year when we were beating everyone else. If we don't strap 'em up and play for 60 minutes, anyone on our schedule can put a whipping on us. We've proven nothing except that we can beat two teams that couldn't stop turning it over.

Still, our talent is a LOT better than UNC. Losing this one would be disgusting. After that, it gets tougher, but hopefully the team gets healthier and hungrier as guys get back into the fold. I wouldn't give up on this team yet, but they have a lot still to prove.

flyingnail....your post is completely ridiculous. This is not the same as the past, there will be a pretty good turnout this weekend. (game is nearly sold out and its only tuesday). Also, we as true fans should be proud of the fight this team is showing. They could have rolled over and lost to either Weber or NAU and they didn't. They have battled injury after injury and although it has been extremely difficult at times to watch...they are still alive in the playoff race. We're starting to get healthier and I know for a fact the coaching staff will not let this team roll over and play dead. If your gonna have that attitude then quit coming to games and go be a Cougar fan.

To be fair, Weber's only TO was the fumble on the last play of the game.

I thought I read somewhere a few weeks ago that there had already been 8,000 sold for the UNC game, so should be a decent crowd.

Flyingnail, I hope you are joking......lose a couple of games and all of a sudden we won't get crowds at games? I don't think so.

Some of us around here still remember the 1995 and 2006 seasons. Every team has "down" years, but I'll always be an Eagles fan. True fans stick with their teams through thick and thin.

Thats a given Ranger ! So tired of these fans and their game predictions. This team has shown heart and has not quit, however the chances of running the table are few, this isnt the same team as last year and I'm getting so tired of hearing posters comparing them ! Lotsa injuries this year but IMOH they 've lost the tigers eye and repeating is NEVER easy ! Sometimes posting negative thoughts gets people pissed off, I like that ! passion for your team no matter what ! Has'nt been alot to post THIS year but lets keep hoping for a miracle !! GOEAGS!!! ps, I hate the cougs and the huskies and anything thats not red !!! lol

I think some of you are delusional if you think we could withstand more than 1 non-playoff year and carry any fan-momentum down the road. No one should write this season off, but we probably buried ourself in September...

It'll be imperative to build a GOOD schedule next year that features multiple September home games when the weather is friendly and the tailgating is primed and make sure we put together some wins early. I think our schedule calls for a money game to open the season against WSU, which I suppose is par for the course. But then we have a worthless game scheduled at Idaho which MUST be kicked off the schedule. This is a horrible game and from what I hear isn't paying us legit money ($150,000 was the contract, I think). Get rid of that one and bring Eastern Oregon to Cheney for week #2.

--- And while at it, don't even pick up the phone and talk with someone who doesn't fit one of the following two categories:

1. Willing to pay $400,000 or more for a road game--- and only once per season
2. Willing to play a home-home

(Idoblow is willing to do neither)

I know the AD and University as a whole cringe at the thought of spending money, but this isn't rocket science. You don't sell out your season because aren't playing high-probability games. Previous ADs were able to get home-homes with Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, and Illinois State back when Eastern had half the budget we have now. We also managed to always get a D-II on the schedule without panicking over the $50k it would cost to bring them in. This "we can't afford it" shit is just that, SHIT. Sometimes the AD needs to just find the money and stop thinking everything is for sale. We're not going to be a big-boy program unless we act like a big-boy program... you don't see Appalachian State or Montana doing the foolish things we try to do.

I'm off my stump. But fuck it, let's learn from our mistakes and NOT make them again. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. No more opening the season with two FBS teams, no more Septembers on the road. Let's be SMART !!!!

And while I'm bitching about scheduling, feast on this one... have we played more than one decent out-of-conference team at home in basketball in the last 5 years?

Chaves does a lot of things well, but scheduling is NOT one of them.

Spot on Dopa !! It gets SO redundant hearing that Chaves made the right decision for this team ! He signed the death warrant for this group of seniors and the team as a whole with the early sechedule we played !! Now the momentum of 2010 is history! We've gone from first to almost worst ! Very pathectic forsight on his behalf !! And while your at it, you can stick Kirby and his freaking long lines and seating arrangements with him ! Very bush league !! Putting parents in the General admission seats and not even explaining to the ushers WTF was going on !! in an effort to sell more seats ! DumbAss !!

LDopaPDX;
Do you think Chaves is malicious and intentionally damaging the program?
or
Do you think he just does not give a shit?
or
Do you think he is has so little experience that he does not know any different?
Must be one of the above or maybe... you do not know the entire situation with scheduling and prove you do not know what the hell you are talking about every time you dredge up this old news.

I think Chaves has done a very good job on the whole. But the scheduling is bad as often as it is not. I really haven't seen a "good" schedule in years, but it seems like every other year comes an atrocious schedule.

I know Chaves wants everything to go well. Hell, I've never doubted his or anyone in the ADs intentions. The problem is that good intentions aren't translating to good decisions in scheduling. Again, he seems like he manages the programs well and probably is quite good at balancing a budget...

We may have lost this season over one horrendous decision to travel to South Dakota for no money. We got banged up, lost all our momentum, got beat, and then went into Missoula with no confidence and lost another game we should've won. Had we played Minot State instead--- like Montana State did the week before they came to Cheney--- we're 4-2 right now in all likelihood.

I can live with it as-is, but the great concern is we will learn nothing from it internally. It's just like when we opened with Texas Tech and Colorado and were surprised when a good team with a lot of returning talent couldn't make the playoffs. Or when we opened with Oregon State and West Virginia and had our worst season in two decades. We get nowhere when we have schedules like that... And without intervention we're scheduled for the same thing next season.
