EWU v Montana State Pre-Game

Know it's early, think the analysis of UNI is ehhh... So a non-conference conference game sounds like fun.

MSU already has a thread on how to contain EWU. Personally, I think the Defense is going to start to hit its stride and move the needle to being a strength as the season progresses. Several have noted we will all know more after the UNI game. My guess MSU fans will be dialed in after their teams long lay off.

Some of the comments.
Get a good rush with the front 4, get to the QB, press coverage with safety help disrupt the timing.
Until West had cramps he never felt the pressure from Oregon and got the ball out quick IMO.

The grizz sacked Adams five times in each game last year. They held EWU to 394 yards and just 4.9 per play in the second meeting. The first meeting was 461 and 6.7. They had 582 and 7.9 against us. If we can just match the numbers um held them to in the first game I really like our chances. We had three sacks.
OK, so what they are saying is they will score more than EWU in a shootout. Anything changing on MSU defense to make this happen? Know they got some transfers. Open question still?

love the idea of rushing 4 and dropping the rest but unfortunately I don't think that we have the guys up front to do that. We have to play aggressive and send pressure from all over the place. We need to press their wide outs and double Kupp
:) Interesting concept here. Man after my own heart. The thing about bringing pressure, is it has to be a part of the defensive "identity". Without it being the RAISON D'ÊTRE or CORE of what you do, it's hard to turn on and off and not generally effective. We have seen that in recent years and can all think of teams that played with their hair on fire defensively.

Wow after looking through those predictions I am :? very shocked. They are a lot of very intelligent responses and not just the usual homer type of responses. Surprisingly a lot of them are picking us big. I think feel a lot of them have very good arguments either way. :twocents:
Should be a great game. Glad I am going!

You guys have had our number for to many years! I have to predict a Bobcat win but it will be tough to accomplish on your field.

You guys have had two tough games. I watched the UNI game and it certainly could have gone in your favor.

Ft Lewis stacked the box and held us scoreless for 1.5 quarters scoreless. DP had open receivers behind their defense but didn't get it dialed in right away. I would do the same and put pressure on DP to get him out of his rythym. Once the over the top passes started to connect it was off to the races and it opened up the runninng game.

Our secondary is young this year so I would do what EWU does best and stretch the field with passes. We are going to have a hard time covering your recievers. I don't think we have answer to that.

This will be a good game. Wish I could be there is person.

I'd struggle to make a pick in this game simply because there are so many variables as to who may or may not play from Eastern. If more than half of the banged up guys wind up playing, I think the home field advantage makes Eastern a legit favorite. If more than half stay out, it's hard for me to see Eastern fielding enough talent to tip the scales in their favor.

The scary thing is that historically, when Eastern says a player is "questionable," they tend to not only be out but out for multiple games.

I see this year as being a little like 2012 when Brandon Kaufman really kept Eastern alive in a lot of games. The same is now true of Cooper Kupp. He is so dominant on the field that when he doesn't play, Eastern offense is a couple of touchdowns below what they'd be with him in the game. While I think a lot of the guys behind him are pretty good, they just aren't on his level and carry his ability to take over a game.

Would like to see more on the field leadership. This is very much a "team" but someone needs to step up and push everyone to perform at the next level. Might not be an Eastern trait. Too many potential stars among the current role players to accept less.

Always a fun game when MSU and EWU get together. As an MSU follower, I have no idea what type of team we have this year, as we've only played one game and it was vs a dII team. This game should tell us if we're contenders or pretenders.

Everyone is expecting our offense to be extremely dynamic. We have most of our starters from last year returning, great depth (especially at WR and RB), and a big time addition at tight end (transfer from Miami). The difference on offense this year is that Dakota Prukop's ability isn't going to surprise anyone this year.

Defense is a HUGE question mark. Last year we had one of the worse defenses in the country and lost a quite a few senior starters. Lots of new young guys and JC transfers on the defensive side of the ball, and a new D Coordinator will hopefully help. I think we'll be ok at DL and LB, but our secondary is a major concern. A concern that's compounded against a team that throws the ball like EWU. If MSU can get 4 man pressure on your QB, I think MSU has a shot. If not, it may turn out like last year where the only thing that stopped the EWU offense was the goal line.

Here's to a good game, and hopefully my rods and cones aren't too confused by the end.

ewueagle2010 Really don't like the all red look, wish we were going with white pants.

Put a better pic up. Kind of gratified that they can wear the all red on the inferno. Liked the darker red helmet of a few years ago. Will be very happy with the uni's given a win :D

Red Uni's + Red Field = a very hard game to watch on TV, or at least to try and pick out where they are on the field.

I've heard this a few times... do you think teams wearing green are hard to see?

People seem to find the red field strange, but within 10 minutes of watching a game, I don't even notice a difference.

I don't think you usually see teams with turf colored jersey's, the green always seems darker on the jersey.
That red though... its so bright, and the uni's match it really well.
