EWU vs. Montana gamethread

Coach Pflu has playing woe is me on how much talent has left trying to lower expectations, yet he has brought in receivers from UCLA, DT and now TE from Washington etc. They lose a game before playoffs begin and some fans will be calling for his head.

Lotta wishful thinking goin on girls! The fact is, there is a reason we are ranked #2 in the nation. It's been a while since we have had a team as stacked as this one. In fact, its a pretty safe bet that not only will the GRIZ win this game, but we will also be singing "Up With Montana" in the middle of that silly red carpet on top of the GRIZ coin. But at least the carpet will match your collective pissed off faces.

The carpet is a cute gimmic..but seriously, "get cred..not red".

GRIZ 38
eastern 17

I'll give you props though..you rolled out the red carpet for the correct team/fans.

The only wishful thinking is that a Jizzly team with only 10 returning starters, weak ass O-line, new head coach, and new offensive and defensive schemes, will do as well as you predict. Maybe while you hicks are over here you can get an education in addition to that loss. ;)

Screamin Eagle...it's really gonna suck to take our 10 returning starters, weak ass 0 line, the new phlu, and our new game...and beat you boys down...because then what would that make the Eagles? Highly Overated in the BSC!! Am I right or am I right? Oh btw...love the new marketing ploy...red looks good on you guys...

Well fuck me runnin', I was under the impression that the game has yet to be played. But I guess since you've imparted your impeccable genius on me, I can simply concede the loss and do something more productive with my day on the 18th. Thank you so much, sir!

What's funny is that PFLU is now taking any JC transfer or delinquiant from ANY high profile team to compete. This should back-fire on him with his talented but ununified Grizzly (Sissy) team. Grizz are a bunch of uncohesive talented soon to jailbirds (convicts). EWU is cohesive and good which will prevail against the derelicks from around the nation in this one. Notice how the Grizz don't recruit Montana any more than they need too!

Ya know, I've had it with Griz fans already this season. I've always been respectful of Montana and their program, but it's obvious that their fans do not deserve that respect. You seem unwilling to give us even the smallest inkling of respect, and it just comes across as incredibly ignorant, arrogant, and class-less.

Hell, I'm not even saying we'll win the game. But to come on here and say that we're just going to roll over for you - that you're just going to come in and smoke us on our own field, is just silly. The game will be a close one, they generally always have been in the past, and there's no reason to think otherwise this year.

If you beat us, I'll be the first to congratulate you - will you do the same if we win? I doubt it, and that's the difference.

But hey, believe what you want. I guess we'll find out September 18th, huh? :D

Great post, Ranger. :)

Montana is great program, has a really nice stadium, and for the most part, terrific fans. :D

Agreed. Every time we go over to watch EWU vs UM we are always shown respect. There just seems to be a few bad apples online.

True, except for most of the posters on egriz.....I do have a great time chatting with a few folks over on CSD.com and I've had some good times watching games in Missoula as well.

It was good that EWU played Nevada even if you struggled getting out of the gate and had first game mistakes. If your QB and receivers had been firing on all cylinders like they normally do it would have been a heck of a game.

I would have Mitchell and the WR put in a lot of extra time between now and the Griz game and try to get on the same page or it will be a long day for the Eagles. You obviously have the talent on the team to beat the Griz but it was apparent you lost some of the offensive rhythm that makes your team very tough to defend.

Will be a heck of a game once the Eagle offense (besides Jones) gets untracked.

Agreed. I don't understand why BLM and his receivers didn't have that chemistry last night. Perhaps just because it was the first actual game together, but in both Spring and Fall Camp they've gelled nicely. BLM and the receivers were here all summer practicing together and playing 7 on 7 as well.

I see a lot of points being scored in the Griz game.

I have nothing but respect for the Eastern program.

I do find it funny that this thread was started months and months in advance of the 3rd game of the season.

Oh, and I really wish you didn't think it was necessary to use a gawd-awful field to be relevant.

Your point is well taken and I think most of us on here can respect your opinion, even if we don't agree with it. Is the red turf gimmicky? Absolutely, but from a marketing stand point and the buzz that it's created around the country, it was a brilliant idea. Montana has it's gimmicks, too, BTW. All programs do - and even though most are not as extreme, I haven't seen one negative comments from Alumni or students. Everyone loves. it. And you and other folks may not like the new field, but really, that's irrelevant, because it has achieved it's purpose.

1.) It provides the best playing surface possible for our football team.
2.) It has sparked national media attention in the New York times, ESPN, USAA, amongst others. Also can't tell you how many compliments from schools all over the country saying how great it looks and how they wish their school would have done it. How could that be a bad thing?
3.) It gives the university something unique that people will remember.
4.) It will undoubtedly help with recruiting, because kids will like it. If you don't believe that you're just kidding yourself.
5.) It will spark further improvements and renovations to a facility that is in drastic need of them. A new score/replay board should be going in next year and there are other things in the works.
6.) It has created a lot of excitement in the local area and the university. People like it.

And as far as needing this to be "relevant", I would argue that we are already relevant in the FCS world. What we are missing is the fan base and facilities, but those will improve by getting more of the current fan base out to games and by creating new fans. To achieve this, if we require a marketing strategy that includes things like different colored turf and the like, well then by all means.

Looking forward to this game and I hope to see ya there!

7. Given this year's Griz D line, it'll hide most of EWU's blood.
