EWU vs NAU predicitions

Hmmmm, they have both teams scoring lots of points. I wouldn't be surprised that both teams light it up, especially if Jones is playing at full capacity.

NORTHERN ARIZONA (3-1, 1-0 BIG SKY) AT NO. 13 EASTERN WASHINGTON (3-2, 2-1)

Kickoff: 4:05

Series record: Eastern Washington leads, 17-10

What to know: Of main concern in this one is the health of Eastern Washington running back Taiwan Jones. The FCS' No. 6 rusher (129.5 yards per game) missed last week's game against Weber State. Despite Jones' absence the EWU offense was productive, notching five touchdowns in the 35-17 win.

Northern Arizona will be a stiffer test, as the Lumberjacks rank No. 6 in the FCS in rushing defense, and No. 8 in total defense.

Jones is expected to play, and quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is continuing to progress within the system.

Eastern Washington defeated Montana in its inaugural red turf game and it appears as if the new turf, dubbed the Inferno, may provide the Eagles with a slight edge after all.

Prediction: Eastern Washington, 52-49

i think this might be true if we have a packed house....is the game sold out yet?

There's no way in hell EWU can ring up that many points !! NAU maybe if the Defense plays like it did at MSU !! How about 28-24 EWU , it's home field advantage, but I think the Eagle defense will come ready to play !!! GOEAGS!!!

This game will be much lower scoring than the TSN prediction... that's just ridiculous. BLM is not Matt Nichols, and these defenses are nothing like the two that played in the last game of the year last year, depleted from injuries and a long season.

EWU 21, NAU 17

EXACTLY!!! GOEAGS!

Who would have predicted that MSU and Sac. State would have gone overtime and in the 60's? I worry more about Sac. State than NAU. This could very well be a high scoring game considering the defenses.

I'm w/ wineguy..I was concerned bout Sac State before the season started and they are good. NAU is solid for sure but think BLM will be going into this game w/ added confidence and will play a polished game leading us to a 27-17 VICTORY!!

I've got EWU going 38-31. Should be a good game, but with BLM finding his stride, TJ coming back, and the O-Line clicking, there is no way the EWU drops this crucial game at home.

Welcome to the forum FormerEag... we'd love to see you here more often !

I agree with your analysis.. It's hard to imagine the Eagles lay an egg at home against a team that doesn't look as good on paper. That said, we played well last week but before that we looked as terribly inconsistent as a team could look.

Therefore, just because things *clicked* last week, they could just as easily *unclick* this week. Doing the little things right like converting short yardage plays and hitting makeable field goals will be huge. On defense, we need to be able to contain with our DEs and get pressure with our front 4 so we can continue to put all of our back 7 into coverage. You'd think we're far enough along into the season that a dramatic difference in turnovers shouldn't cost either team the game.

Anyone in town know what the weather's like there today? I read somewhere 70% chance of rain, which if holds true won't be good for attendance or our passing attack.

This game is going to be an interesting one - I liked the adjustments we made on offense last week and I think we proved that we can play a physical brand of football that most don't expect from us. That said, I don't think this game hinges on whether or not Taiwan can go. In my opinion, he'll get limited playing time at best, so it's going to be important for us to continue to get good play from the offensive line. We proved that we can run the ball even without TJ, and we'll need to continue to do that. Good news I that I think DB is up for it.

I also like how we finally used our TE's last week - we'll need to continue to do that. Matt Martin has a lot of experience, and that 6'5 Freshman TE Seto could be the next Overbay.

Keys to the game:

Run the ball
Connect on the deep ball
Pressure on Herrick
Continue to create TO's
Bend but don't break in the secondary

To elaborate on one of your key about pressure on the QB... we really need to be able to get pressure just using our front 4. They are good enough, but are one of the biggest inconsistencies on the team. If they can contain on the outside and stop things up in the middle, we can lay our back 7 into coverage and still hurry their QB. That would be huge.

I actually like how our front four have been playing. It's also the one area on defense where we seem to have a lot of depth. Anthony Larry is back this week, so that should help as well. Our front four will get pressure on him, I'm more concerned with our corner play. Artise Gauldin needs to start at boundary CB, he's played better than Jesse Hoffman, IMO.

NAU's defense ranks 8th in all of FCS. :?:

Thanks, it's good to be here! But be careful what you wish for

Couldn't agree with you more. I know that Coach Baldwin and Coach Best have a good game plan drawn up. Now the guys just have to execute it. 3rd down and special teams will indeed be huge. I've got to believe that the Jacks will bring a little something special due to our performance last year down in Flagstaff. I have friends that go to school there that say that they still talk about that game.

Help....
Need more input with some of the comments made.
TE Seto is a true freshman according to the depth chart and would be fourth behind Martin, Gehring and Harris. What makes you think he would play?
Anthony Larry is also a true freshman and behind David Miles who is taller and weighs more with 2 yrs. exp. Is Larry that good to take his place?
Artise Gauldin has been playing well, can't argue with that.

If we play like we did last week, (and I do mean IF) we will win this game. I think Mario Brown is really coming on and will have a great much needed game. I like the combination of him and Beaumonte. the defenses have a hard time making the adjustment. Of course that is assuming TJ doesn't play the whole game.

I think Anthony Larry will get some reps because he is a great athlete. Played WR in HS. Imagine that coming at you on a slant pattern.

I think he is a RS FR(maybe prop). Part of that sweet recruiting class the year before last.

That's not to imply Miles isn't getting the job done. Just a chance to spell him and keep him fresh and playing hard.

About the TE's - Harris is done for the season due to concussion. Seto would be the 2nd or 3rd string TE behind Matt Martin. He caught 3 or so passes in the Weber game.

*Edit* He just scored. :D
