Grant football coach Mike Alberghini said Weber State is getting a special player in former Pacers' all-purpose star Ference Lang.

The dynamic 5-foot-8, 165-pound Lang, who is playing for the North Team in Saturday's 55th annual Optimist All-Star Game at American River College, was a late NCAA qualifier.

Alberghini said Lang is entering Weber State without a football scholarship but still could land one before the Wildcats' Sept. 3 season opener at Wyoming.

"The kid can play – Weber State got a steal," Alberghini said. "A couple of big-named schools wanted him to gray-shirt (sit out a season before enrolling in college), a couple of others wanted him to walk on. But this is better for him. He doesn't need to be sitting around."

Alberghini said the speedy Lang is expected to contribute immediately as a cornerback. He also might return kicks and could see action at wide receiver.

Lang was arguably the Pacers' most valuable player – he earned Delta Valley Conference MVP honors – on a star-studded Grant team that was ranked No. 1 in the state most of the year.

He scored 23 touchdowns and had seven interceptions during the regular season, but he missed the postseason (other than a few token plays) because of a lingering ankle injury.

Sounds like a good catch; did Sac State give him a look, he's in their back yard.... No worries, we can never have too many fast CB's or returners, flashbacks to Etuati when he was prime time :)

Did he make it? I haven't seen him on the roster yet. Would be nice for him to play. We could always use some more depth at the WR, KR, and CB positions.

Kids from Grant are problems, Sac State gets a few every once in a while, picked up a couple this year, but you've got to be selective due to the type of kids that go to that school. It's in a very dangerous area and a kid from that school is more likely to end up in prison than college.

It's a powerhouse program no-doubt, but the school has a very bad reputation for everything else. Not saying good kids don't go there, just saying very few do.

Hope he works out for you guys.

Good luck this season.

I relly hope that he is one of the good kids to come out of that school, we dont need any problems this season.

Good luck this year as well Stung, Sac looks to be a good team this year, Weber is gonna have to fight for that win. :thumb:

I'm guessing he isn't on the roster yet, because he hasn't reported to camp yet. He can be in Ogden and with the team, but the NCAA really keeps a weary eye on the numbers that can report to camp. If he wasn't included in the official numbers that were suppose to report to camp then he isn't recognized as a member of the team yet. At least, I think so...
