Expectations of Fall Camp

What is everyone looking to see heading into fall camp and what are expectations coming out? Who will be QB1 and QB2 coming out of camp?

Predictions on how long Collins will last before getting fired?

I think Newsome is going to grab the bull by the horns and be the starter. #2 is up for grabs at this point. As far as Collins goes, it will be up to the kids to save him otherwise he won't make it thru the season !

I agree. I think Newsom will be QB1. I think he could have beat out Rubes in camp. The kid is a gamer. I'm hoping to see a better running game coming out of camp. Our hurry-up, spread offense should be fun to watch, but hopefully it will spread out the defense enough for our backs to break off some big runs. Our young o-line is going to have to gel so that the backs can get to the 2nd level before contact. Defensively I'd like to see our inside run game improve. I think with a healthy group of LBs, Coach Kerr will be able to put together a much tougher defense than we saw last season. I'm optimistic that this is going to be a much better team, and consequently, a much better season. Go Bears!!!

I have to disagree with you, yes the defense is going to be vastly better this year, especially with the LB core back in full force. Sadly this season is going to be like the last few seasons, more losing, more let downs, and a sad ending to a season. Hopefully the favorite coach, Mr. Earnest Collins does not make it more than a few games.

Speaking of talent...
The Billings Gazette always puts together a series of preseason articles about the upcoming Big Sky FB season. This year it is called, "Ranking the top 100 players in the Conference." Every Wednesday they will list 20, starting with #100. So far they have listed #81 thru #100. Darius Graham is listed at #93. The writer is Greg Rachac and he is pretty knowledgable about Big Sky Football. Probably because he has had the privledge to cover Montana and Montana State for several years. Here is the link:

I agree, especially about our LBs. The last game against ND we were playing several safety's at the position because we had so many hurt. Should be much different this season. As far as QB, I believe it will be Newsom, but wouldn't count out Sloter - the QB from Southern Mississippi.

I just found an FCS blog called AnyGivenSaturday.com. This site has a lot of content. They list the top players for each position for the AGS All-American Team, including all of the special team positions (i.e. punter, punt returner, kicker, kick returner, and all-purpose). The Big Sky has 46 of the 289 players listed. Here's the breakdown: Montana St 8, Idaho St 8, EWU 7, NAU 5, Montana 4, So. Utah 4, Cal Poly 3, Sac St 3, Portland St 2, UNC 1, UND 1, UC Davis 0, Weber St 0. The lone Bear was Zamora. He was one of 9 FBs listed.

I'm hoping the team wins the maximum number of games that will still get Collins fired. As I have said on here before, I played one season under Collins and I do not think he is a good person, plain and simple. It has been tough rooting for the team these last couple of years while still hoping that Collins will be ousted. Anyways, I am excited to see how this team shapes up. Transfers and JuCo guys can be either good or bad. Hopefully we got some playmakers that just didn't fit the system at their other schools.

Hey BearsAlum, I am fairly new to the message board and am curious why you don't think Collins is a good person? I have never met the man, but obviously I'm sick of all the losing. I'd love some insights from a former player. Thanks!

I am not a former player but I will give my opinion.
First, I do not think anybody who has written on this board has said that Coach Collins is not a "good person." As a matter of fact, it is my opinion that he is a good person who is doing the best he can do. Unfortunately, as indicated by his record, many of us believe that the best he can do is not good enough for the job responsibilities of an FCS head coach - plain and simple. I believe that is the foundation of the criticism that you have read. That said, Go Bears.

Kaydee, read the quoted post. He said "I played one season under Collins, and I do not think he is a good person." So that is why I asked for specific examples. When you make a charge like that, I want someone to back it up with some solid reasoning.

Again, BearsAlum I'm curious why you don't think Collins is a "good person." That is a pretty serious accusation and, having played under him for a year, I would love to hear why you think that. I am tired of the losing, and maybe your insights about how Collins acts/treats players will help me understand why.

Thanks.

Mustari is reporting that linebacker Leilon Willingham will take a second medical redshirt after foot surgery. He's a stud when he's healthy; tough break. He also writes about a linebacker who switched from wrestling to football: http://www.greeleytribune.com/sports/17634507-113/university-of-northern-colorado-wrestling-prospect-has-made" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
