Facing facts

Okay lets face some facts.

1. Weber State Sports are in the midst of having an absolutely dreadful year. When was the last time that there wasn't one team that won a conference championship? Weber has been awarded the most all sport trophys and president cups, but when was the last time that happened? To me that is a pretty good measure of how successful an athletic department is. Winning or competing for the Presidents Cup. Yes, academics have been improving and so has facilities. Now it is time to become more competitive again. Weber is not competing like they use to. Weber was the top athletics school in the conference at one time and now we are at the bottom of most polls. Get more from the teams or let the coaches go.

2. Student participation and support...Ugh!! Embarrassing. Does the university realize that those individuals who are currently attending school will be the ones donating, supporting, buying season tickets, and joining alumni groups in the future. Since Bev left Alumni, nobody has stepped up. Student leadership is a sham. Ambassadors all dream of being somewhere else, SAA is a joke, WSUSA is a complete waste of student fees. If I was a student I would demand that all officers repay their scholarships. 1 game this year the student section came and kinda participated. Weber's supporters are dying off. Who is going to replace them? If there isn't support now, there won't "MAGICALLY" be support in the future. What happened to alumni, wildcat club, jr. wildcats. etc etc etc...Dream 125 is stuggling...Next Capitol Campaign will be even worse. The support is drying up and the university isn't interested in investing in the creation of future support by investing in getting students more involved.

3. Marketing is a dead horse that gets beaten time and time again. We all know it is a joke. What is done is just enough...Is that the motto in athletics right now. JUST ENOUGH? Feels like it is a university mission statement.

4. Basketball is the cash cow of this university. Yes we all want our football program to be good, but it starts with basketball and always has. Weber is a basketball school. Our program is sick. I hope Randy can get things figured out and quick. If that means getting rid of a cancerous coach...then he needs to do it. The team has not developed and looks like a bunch of individuals running around with their own agendas. Trying to prove that they are the next Damian Lillard. News flash...Lillard played within the system and was a team first guy. Yes, he could take over games and did quite frequently, but he also, was a guy who recognized the benefit of the team. ABSOLUTELY no leadership on this years squad. Man up and become team players. If Randy can't get it fixed, it doesn't matter how much you have done, a good situation can turn into a lost job very quickly in the world of college coaching. I feel Randy will and that he will have a few more championships before he is done. But Weber has to raise the standard and banner of the program. OOC games need to be won and the conference dominated. With what the program has that other schools don't especially with how much can potentially be added, there are no excuses! Turn up the heat and get better results.

I'd still like to hear from Rahe what went wrong in his eyes this year...... Not the we're young crap, but where in his eyes the team failed to come together.

It's funny that the team has no leadership, most natural for the leader to be Joel, but that ain't going to happen. It's also a selfish team and there's no one to police that issue. Say what you want about Beckner, but he held everyone including himself accountable.

It's not unusual for the AD or head coach to talk about a team's performance during the season, we get nothing. In the beginning of the year Rahe talked about this team being special....... Well we were young at that time too, what didn't happen that changed this year into a disaster and what should we expect next year!

I talked about this 6 months ago, what is a successful season at Weber State? Is it:

1) winning conference?
2) winning the tourney?
3) winning OOC games?
4) winning in the big dance?
5) graduation our players?

What should we expect of the Weber State basketball team?

:+1: Well said Tal...this fan's sentiment exactly...very good points made. Midmajor makes valid points/questions also, my answer to the bottom line question is ALL of the above. Within reason, as the resources at Weber State are above average for sure, but realistic limitations are also there as everyone has to admit. But is it really unfair to have all of those expectations? :twocents:

If I recall, he has said that the team lacks toughness. And he placed the blame on the coaches, himself and his assistants.
