Fall Camp 2014

Players report for camp next Wednesday, but the first practice of fall camp is one week from tomorrow! Despite the prevailing consensus that we are in for another long year, it is tough to start the season without feeling some optimism that this is the year things will turn around. I know my optimism and hope will probably be crushed early, but for right now my excitement and anticipation for the season are strong.

GO BEARS!!!

Always excited for the team this time of year. Its just that we have been hit with so much losing lately that our optimism goes south real quick. None the less, lets get the ship going in the right direction. Go Bears !!

Anyone seen a practice schedule for camp. Would like to know when the scrimmage is going to be. Aug 23?

Have not seen a practice schedule for camp yet. Don't think the players have seen a practice schedule either. Have heard the schedule is going to be a little lighter this year with a day or two more off than the past couple of years. Also heard that they may have a scrimmage under the lights, but I haven't heard when yet.

Anyone expecting some up-and-comers in camp? Who will be the surprise player that will stand out?

Hard to say, but I have few guys that I think have the potential to be that guy-

Singleton at DB
Graham and Caragena at RB
Backes at TE
Onic and Deggs at K/P return
D. Anderson at DE
Hinds at WR
Berglund at QB

Finally, the kid I may be most intrigued to see is the DE transfer out of Western Michigan, Mikhail Dubose. Not sure he has received his NCAA approval to play yet, but I hear he has absolutely torn it up this summer.

Very nice! I had no idea he was here. He's a 3star recruit coming out of high school, redshirted and then played some last season. That would mean we have pretty good bookends with Chappele/Dubose and Todd/Anderson.

Plus Lex and Shep pushing up the middle...DLine is going to be yoked!!

Here's highlights from this past season at Western Michigan. He's wearing #93.

Sounds like scrimmages will be Aug 16, Aug 23, and Aug 30. Still not sure on practice schedule except I think all the single practice days will start at 3:00 PM and probably run til between 5:30 and 6:00 PM. No idea on the 2 a days.

Really good article on Mikhail Dubose in today's Tribune. Get past the paywall, it's well worth it. This man is going to be a great addition to our program!

Loved the article. Defensive line has the potential to be dominant this year!

Yesterday was the 1st day in full pads and today is the first Two-A-Day in fall camp. Anybody had a chance to make it to a practice or hear how the team is looking?

I've picked up a couple of things. Nothing all that noteworthy though.

  • Rubalcaba has been looking even better than he did in the Spring.
  • Brock Berglund is seriously pushing Rubes though. It may come down to whether Berglund can get truly comfortable with the offense. But apparently his level of play has a lot of the players talking.
  • Jonathan Newsom is running a strong 3rd in the QB competition. For the 1st time in a long time the Bears have solid depth at QB!
  • O-Line still not inspiring a lot of confidence.
  • D-line is definitely going to be the strength of the defense and maybe the whole team.
  • No major injuries so far, but kids are starting to get dinged up
  • Leilon still not practicing. I'm starting to get concerned that he may not make it back

I hope to make it to the 1st scrimmage on Saturday.

Yikes, that's not good. What LB's have been working in the 1st string?

Have not heard anything on that. Hopefully the scrimmage on Saturday will provide some of those answers.
