You could find me sitting in my Truck observing the practices, I park either by Jim Thorpe Field House, or next to the entrance in what little shade is coming from the little shed where the team have their Trainers Tent. I agree with everything you have mentioned. EX Coach Dick Zornes was out there yesterday, and he said he is very much impressed with the Defense, he even said he think the Defense is going to be better than last year. For so much young Players coming to the Team, the Team is looking very good. I love the speed they have going from Stations to Stations. I haven't miss a practice as yet, will be there today with my Daughter, I am very careful with all the smoke around from the fires, I want to be here Sept 9th, my 83 Birthday, and the Team promised to defeat NDSU a "VICTORY" That will be great, all I want our team to do is to continue to play hard, regardless. Hope to see you there today. Vic E. Wallace

You're seeing the same thing I am, Vic. I am really impressed by the guys on the team. While a lot of them are young guys, and that can lead to growing pains, the talent is obvious. I've never seen an Eastern team with as many "beasts" as this one. The hard part is that the entire top tier of the FCS has also improved a lot, so there are going to be 10-15 really great teams all competing on the same very high level.
And dear God, if football doesn't work out for Jay T Tiuli and Keith Moore, they would make some scary pro wrestlers. They are two of the biggest, baddest men I've seen. EWU lists Moore at 6'4" 290, but he looks more like 6'6" 325. That guy is a monster.
And the DB v. WR battles going on were epic. If you haven't had a chance to check out a practice, I'd recommend it. These guys straight go to war. Some of these DBs and WRs look like fighter jets in the air... a total dogfight.

I thought that Timo Jones looked like a Kaufman type when he was recruited, would love to see a big fella like that in the seam causing chaos.
Liked Jones athleticism (again from HS film) and really thought if his speed was 4.6-4.8 we might see another Kaufman big play receiver. Think we have reasonable talent at TE with Byus, Belk, Jones et. al. and need another option to move the chains, keep D's off balance and let our WR's make big plays. Glad to have Grady back at WR this season as a big target. There seems to be plenty of skill at WR. How they doing on drops?LDopaPDX said:luckyintheorder said:Have enjoyed the reports that confirm the teams depth, speed and aggression they've recruited the past few seasons. I think Byus is temporarily #1 of the depth chart. The biggest change we'll probably see this year is more use of a tight end.

Concerned if GG goes down. O'Reilly was a heck of a security blanket. Know he will light it up at CWU this year. No backup's with a snap at this level is a bit chilling. Don't care to be a nervous nelly, assume Barriere (sp) got plenty of coaching as a redshirt last year and saw how everyone prepared.
Looking forward to more "live" reporting from fans at the practices.
I was at most of the Spring scrimmages and EB3 was not at the same level as Gage at that point. I didn't really think it was close either. He did make some plays, and his team did win the Red/White game. He definitely still has some growing to do. The athleticism and arm strength are there. Most of his growing will be between the ears. I thought some of the coverages confused him which took some of the crispness out of his decision making. The potential to be as good as VA is there, but I don't want to hype this kid too much yet. If he gains any kind of confidence I think he could have a bright future. Could we win with him this year? I believe we could, but I don't think it would be because he would be carrying us. I believe we could win because we have a very solid TEAM. A deep playoff run THIS YEAR without Gage is unlikely in my opinion. I'm not saying EB3 can't eventually help us win a Natty.LDopaPDX said:luckyintheorder said:Liked Jones athleticism (again from HS film) and really thought if his speed was 4.6-4.8 we might see another Kaufman big play receiver. Gage is certainly going to be our "brand" this season, much like Kupp was last year. But I've heard the staff is pretty jazzed on Barriere as well. He's a little bit like a slightly bigger version of Vernon Adams, with a lot of the same skill set (highly mobile, passing on the run, etc). The issue for him will be developing him into the kind of leader and consistent performer that VA was.
The funny thing for Hennessy was that he'd probably start at any Big Sky school except Eastern or NAU.
