Fall Camp Updates

Craig Haley is EVERYWHERE. Athlon rankings out today. Eastern made the list at 6.

So, I'm a Kennesaw fan too (unless we meet in the playoff's) and have watched them build the team for the past 7 years (they started giving scholarships a couple years before they actually started playing, several of my son's teammates flirted with attending KSU). I point this out because I have seen the talent KSU has amassed in a talent rich area and can say that Eastern has talent on par or better. Where are the Eags better?

OL fits the FBS size model, KSU's fit the FCS model (I don't have strength numbers) BETTER

WR's WAY BETTER

QB (starters fit their respective models, bkups might give KSU the edge) PUSH

RB's KSU (this just might be a coaching thing, we run the ball down here. Custer is as athletic as anyone, in the KSU model he might go for 1,500 and 8-12 TD's, not sure any of the other RB's would start at KSU. McPherson does have B back attributes though)

Defense PUSH (man for man Eastern is a match in the front seven, KSU may have an edge at DB but not in depth. KSU did have the Rice award winner at LB last year. I think Eastern has top five team talent on defense)

Coaching KSU (I think they are doing more with less talent than Eastern)

Conference BETTER to WAY BETTER (Eags perennially play a tough schedule in and out of conference, KSU's schedule this year is weak aside from Monmouth and CSU)

Would like to see anyone else's thoughts against another FCS program they have good insight too. Think we have at least one alum with kids at CalPoly etc..

GAME DAY in 11 days...

I stopped by, not a lot of starters seeing much action. Defense looked good. Running game looked a little concerning. Receivers dropped a few balls.

The only information I can pass along that might not be well known is that it looked like Talkington outplayed Barriere. That said, it's hard to tell too much because it's hard to discern who was playing on each unit.

IMO a receiver that drops a ball even in practice and scrimmage is like a dog that won't hunt, we don't need them. Sit them down until they can concentrate.

I haven't heard much about Xavier James and I don't see him listed. I know he was injured all of last year. Has anyone heard if he's all the way healthy? I watched him play in a couple of spring scrimmages a while back and I thought he looked like one of the more promising receivers we have. Any updates about his status would be great.

Dopa's right. The scrimmage was not very revealing. However, Talkington's arm strength was impressive. He's not as mobile as Barriere, but he can throw it a country mile. Grady and Limu-Jones looked like tough matchups too. Both remind me a little of Kaufman without the hands. On paper, this team looks as good as any top to bottom. Time will tell.

About what I expected. Looks like Tre Weed will play as a true Freshmen.
Did I understand Best on radio that new rule allows 4 games participated in and still maintain that year as red shirt? If so, maybe Tre would play a little and still not burn his first year.

Correct. They can play a max of 4 games without burning a redshirt. Allows a little more flexibility in the process.

I recently watched part of the UC Davis game from last year, and Limu-Jones was an absolute beast in that game. Hoping to see more of him this year. Kinda surprised he’s listed as a 3 on the most recent depth chart.

Grady was really playing great until he got injured last year. He and Webster were essentially the only receivers that did anything in that Texas Tech game. Man, were we bad in that game.
