Anyone have thoughts on how the season will go this Fall? I noticed the Big Sky officials announced that it will allow individual schools to make choices on when/how to start this year. However, things changed dramatically as the California State University system stated it will primarily be online. Without students on campus, I doubt their seasons will even happen. So...that means UNC will need to reschedule their game against Cal Poly. I'm not sure if UC Davis is part of that organization. Here are my thoughts.

Best option...
Begin season in the Spring with full stadium.

Second best option...
Allow half the stadium to be full. Nottingham seats 8,500; so sell only 4K tickets.

Third best option...
Season goes along without fans, but a pay-per-view tv set up is possible so the school makes some money.

Last option....
No season at all. If this is the case, I believe the program will fold and cease to exist.


The school was already in a ton of $$$ mess. I'm not sure there is an easy way to go about this.

University of Montana's A.D. has been pretty transparent about the process Fall sports will go through. I can't upload the video for some reason, but he has stated the conference A.D's have been in talks once-a-week since this thing happened. All sorts of things are on the table, such as shortened schedule, etc. As far as fans are concerned, he mentioned, and I think most A.D.'s are thinking the same thing, that there will be limited spectators. Most are projecting students and season ticket holders only.

Our student section gets really full early on for games - like over capacity, so they will have to spread out. When we start to lose games in October, there's no problem because they don't show up. I think anyone who wants to go to games should get their season tickets, asap. I don't see them selling single game seats.
 
This really is horrible timing. I was hoping Ed87 would breath life into the program and get the entire community to come out and support the Bears like Boyle was able to do with the basketball team.
 
BigTen saying conference games only which is odd to me. Why is okay for Maryland to fly to Michigan but not host Towson (near Baltimore, 30 minutes from University of Maryland) or take the bus to West Virginia just a few hour bus ride away? I think they are grabbing at straws here.

I think the idea is that when you only play conference games each team in that conference will adhere to the same agreed upon policies, procedures, and standards... when you play out of conference you might end up dealing with aspects and things beyond your control that would be against those standards you have agreed to together as a conference.

For example the Big 10 says everyone with locker room access should wear a mask and then a team goes and plays West Virginia and they have no such policy...
 
True. Also, there is no reason for a big school to pay a small school a ton of money to come play them if they are not getting any ticket money.
Be interesting to see what happens to Notre Dame if everyone goes to in-conference play only.
 
New Mexico's governor has asked UNM and NMSU to move sports to the Spring. I would have been okay with this say several weeks ago, but now that I think about it, I don't see how it's possible. It's going to be a mess regardless. The issue though is this virus is not going to go away after 2020, nor after 2021, etc. We can't just stop living. I am hoping for an all-conference schedule, a trip to Ft. Collins too. Just limit seating, staggered release, limit crowds at half time. It can be done. Let's not stop living though.
 
The more I think about this, the more I am in favor of just getting rid of the football program all together. The school cannot afford any major financial blows to the athletic department and it looks like there might not be a full season. It's very doubtful we go to Fort Collins to lose and get the $$$ we desperately need.

I would not mind at all if they yanked football and put the money into the Olympic sports that have had success. Give the money to hoops, volleyball, wrestling and baseball. That is IF they can even survive this crisis.
 
I would love to see what #87 can do with this program. A good and charismatic coach did wonders for our basketball program which nobody ever cared about. I think a 3 or 4 years of winning football with a coach that is recognizable and loved could do wonders for our program. When I was a student (early 90's), Joe Glenn was that guy. He was great with the community, had a competitive team and we packed a crappy Jackson field with numbers that Nottingham has yet to see (especially lately).

You and I both, but I am just trying to be positive but realistic. The best case scenorio and one that I am hoping for is a conference plus one season. We play our slated conference games and the CSU game. They will need to implement 50% attendance and spread the student section out. The student section gets extremely packed during the games in September (once we start losing they stop coming to the games ). There's no way the program can survive without some ticket revenue.
 
Good news... I just heard that our former high school coach has scheduled Greeley Central to replace the September 5th Fort Lewis game...
 
I do not see how they will pull off a Spring season; but who knows? It's best to not play this year considering the lack of talent on the team and a new coaching staff that had something like 4 total practices with them.
 
It's tough but it's the right move. Lets hope for an NFL season and spring college football.
