FCS Playoffs

Watch both games today at the same time. I guess we found out why San Diego did not use to have auto bid. They got smoked two weeks in a row by Big Sky Teams. Montana State Game was snowy. Bad on Special Teams. Why can't those PAT problems happen against us, or big returns or running into the punter. MSU QB was suffering from a knee injury as well. So was not 100% health wise. Montana will play EWU next week

Montana goes down again against EWU. EWU has built an amazing program and remains the top program in the BSC in football. Hope they go all the way to the national crown.

Eastern Washington gives up 59 points to Illinois State at home and goes down in the playoffs.

UNH, SHSU, NDSU and ISU move on to the semi finals.

Looking at the EWU athletic site today, was struck by how few sports EWU sponsors compared to Sac State. 5 men's sports and 7 women's sports.
Sac State sponsors 8 men's teams and 11 women's teams. 12 teams for EWU compared to 19 for Sac State. The budget is stretched big time at Sac State compared to EWU in athletics. Very interesting. And good for the Sac State athletic department to offer so many more sports and opportunities for Div I athletes.
And believe Sac State has the most teams overall than any other Big Sky schools among the 11 all sports members. Something for Sac State to be very proud of.

only 6,239 in attendance at EWU today for an FCS playoff game. The Eagles have been so fortunate over the years to host the playoff games. I know Sac State has drawn the highest attendance at home Big Sky games over many years (accept this year as attendance really dropped off). We have had the best attendance (way behind the Montana schools) but just above Poly, EWU and Davis for many years. Hopefully we get our attendance back up to third place again next year. And would it not be something someday to get very close to the Montana schools with our 21,000 seat stadium. One can always dream. But it might not be a huge dream with a consistent winning program and moving from the middle of the Big Sky towards the top. We have yet to know what might happen when the Hornets win and win. Notice on the EWU fan board that they want to expand their stadium and some Eagle fans suggest an east side of their stadium with the same style structure that Sac State has as a quick fix. EWU basically has not much of anything in terms of seating on one side of their stadium.

2,300 at the Vilanova playoff game against Sam Houston State on ESPN. ???? Wow. Vilanova football support in PA. Not so good. Yikes. But also probably really bad weather so understandable. Football in PA in Dec. is tough.

6,300 at the UNH home playoff game and New Hamshire is number one in FCS? Wow.
But think that might be capacity at their tiny stadium.

And 6,300 at Eastern Washington today.

Do fans care about FCS playoffs?

Well North Dakota State does. 18,000 at their playoff game today. More like it.

Makes you think about a playoff game at Hornet Stadium some day and what that might be like and what it would draw.

and forgot that North Dakota State does have an indoor stadium so that would of course make a huge difference than than other schools hosting games this time of year, plus they are the 3 time defending FCS champs. What an amazing program they have built there.
