FCS Playoff's

Gonna start the thread, but there are a lot of you who like digging into the statistical elements. So have at it.

I like SUU, PSU and Montana from the BSC.

MVC: NDSU, SDSU, Redbirds, probably NIU
OVC: Jax St., E. Ill
CAA: JMU, William and Mary; Richmond
BigSouth: Charleston Southern, CCU (CCU looks like a HS team)
SoCon: Mocs, The Cidatel, maybe W. Carolina
Southloand: McNeese, Sam Houston...

The rest are a bunch of sad sacks... Winner of Natty: Redbirds

UND is in way ahead of EIU and WCU. I also see UNH getting in.

Last out: WCU, Towson, NAU

Agreed. SUU not being given at least a first round home game is absurd. Western Illinois at 6-5 is dubious. I just don't believe a 6-5 should ever be in the playoffs.

While its been said before, we'd be in the field today had we not taken that stupid road game against UNI early in the year. Replace that with an FCS bottom feeder, and our season would continue. Not saying it should based on the monumental collapse to end the season, but these are things our AD should know. And next year, we even amp up the level of difficulty with two non-con top 25-- maybe even top 10--- FCS teams and yet another BCS top 25 team. Once again, we may play the toughest out of conference FCS schedule in the country.

Not sure why Chaves thinks this is a good decision every year. Baldwin has played his way out of the mess several times, but he couldn't do it this year. When he have new talent to develop, it's awfully nice to have a game where you know you will separate and win easily to work through the rotation.

I'm sure scheduling has to be a difficult job. EWU is a team, not many teams wants to play us. They would rather play a cupcack team, like Idaho    . i know the money doesn't work out, but I would rather play the Academies - I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't agree to travel to Cheney, since they recruit the country- If we had a decent venue, we would be able to get some great matchups like or Idaho, Bosie St, or why not good ivy teams like Harvard. Those kinds of matchups would fill our new stadium and would be great games to watch! Only a new staduim is going to bring those kinds of games to Cheny.

Not to mention @ NAU to finish the month of September. We may start 0-4.

But (as mentioned before) it's not as if Chaves isn't aware of all this so there has to be something more to it.

We will always need the $ game. As a fan of FCS in general I love the match ups with the MVFC and it's not as though we're alone. Teams like UNI, Cal Poly, Montana, WIU, EIU, NDSU, are all scheduling tough OOC.

With UND getting the shaft, we may not have been in anyway. They still
would have had one more quality than us.

Most if not all FBS conferences have clauses which prevent members from playing FCS away games.

Ivies don't travel and are content with short schedules and playing the PL.

Didn't Yale come to SLO to play Cal Poly a couple years back? It seems like only the Big Sky has these ridiculous schedules. I have no problem with MVC or Southland games, but why always the best teams from those conferences? Why not Houston Baptist or Abilene Christian? How about replacing NDSU or UNI with Missouri State? Is SEMO too far to consider? What about Drake or Butler? We can travel to Sam Houston State but not Mississippi Delta, Grambling, or Prairie View?

We just need to expand our horizons a little bit. We need the BCS game paycheck, but even had we dropped UNI for Whitworth, we'd have a strength of schedule well into the top third of FCS teams.

Don't disagree, you're right on Yale but it's a rarity, and again there has to be an explanation. Perhaps it's because we're a tough match up as mentioned so an ACU sees a possible win against UNC?

I just don't think Chaves would turn down the opportunities if they were that easy.

I'd love to,try and lock down some of these HBCU schools... They're typically not very good, but they have large fans bases (by FCS standards). I don't think a home-home would be that difficult, Grambling even did a home-home with Portland State a decade back... And that was when they were much better funded and had options.

I've known a lot of EWU ADs, although I don't know Chaves all that well. I know Eastern is a very hard sell due to our poor facilities. The big, and often undersold, upside is the ease of travel to Cheney. The stadium is 12 minutes from the aero puerto. Hotels is the area are cheap. Playing in Cheney isn't going to set you back much in costs. Compare us to Grand Forks or Pocatello, Cheney is exponentially more attractive.

Did anyone notice the CAA got the easiest draws in the playoff's? UNH v Colgate? How does a bad 7-4 team get that draw and a home game? UNH already beat Colgate once this season. SUU should have gotten home game with either of these turds.

Moc's v Fordham: Moc's in a walkover
Citadel v CCU: coin flip, Citadel wins a close game
Montana v SDSU: Montana firing on all cylinders at the right time
UNI v E. Ill: UNI is a close game

UNH v Colgate: UNH, phuck the committee.
W&M v Dusquense: W&M big
Dayton v W. Ill: Dayton (like their gritty play up attitude)
SHSU v SUU: SUU. BigSky homer pick. SUU leads in takeaways and to win will have to take it away 3 times over a better SHSU team on the road.

Dayton v W. Ill: Dayton (like their gritty play up attitude).

Dayton is a 0 scholarship program, they have no chance. They shouldn't even be invited to the playoffs.

I'm a huge big sky fan as always, ready to yell "go Viks" next week. They are really a feel good story this year, hoping for at least a final 8 for them.

Another year of pitiful first round scheduling by the NCAA. This year is particularly bad. Citadel, Coastal Carolina Montana, SDSU, Sam Houston State, and Southern Utah might be the six best non-seeded teams, and instead of getting patsies, they draw each other? Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

How the hell does 6-5 Western Illinois get Dayton?

Gotta point there. Committee wankers

Let the games begin.

They had 3 wins against playoff teams and played on of if not the toughest schedules in FCS. UND got screwed at the hands of EIU and UNH more.

There may come a time where a 6-5 EWU deserves to get in.

Wankers. Don't think "precedent" matters does it? Watching W. Ill today shows they are nothing special. Lots of tough schedules out there.

If someone told me at the beginning of the year it would be PSU, SUU and UM in the playoffs, I probably would have pissed myself laughing.

I want to see all three of these teams do some serious damage in playoffs. Go Griz! Go Thunderbirds! Go Viks!

With you on all this. SUU is playing their ASS off at SHSU. Don't know if they will hold on, but a heck of a game. Montana cruising.
