Firing Coaches

Yes there will be a number of assistant coaches available, but they will not be from winning programs.
Good programs keep their staff together.

Yes and no. Good programs have their assistant coaches and position coaches move on to bigger and better things. Looking at the history of this Hornet program since becoming a member of the Big Sky, this has not been a good program. Sperbeck is trying to change that label here. His coaching staff changes are to push this program to the next level. He didn’t do it to purposely damage this program, the fact is he didn’t have to; it was in plenty of disarray when he got here. Time will tell if these changes were for the better.

Coach O and Biaz didnt come from a winning program.

Well, technically, since Johnny O came from Nebraska as a graduate assistant to coach at Sac State, he did. If you are talking about Sac State, then fine. We haven't and still don't have what is considered a winning program in football. And, nobody said the program was going to "implode" without these guys or that these two made the program is what is. All newfan wrote was that O brought in alumni and with it some money. And now, some of those alumni are disappointed as to how this went down. Me included.

From Football Scoop:

Sacramento State: We have learned that Cal defensive grad assistant Taggert McCurdy has interviewed for the linebackers job at Sacramento State.

From Cal Site:

Former Golden Bear Taggart McCurdy is in his fourth season at Cal in 2010 and his second as a graduate assistant on defense after serving two seasons as an administrative assistant for the defensive coaches.

McCurdy, who played in all 26 games for Cal in 2003 and '04, began his career by working in the Athletic Study Center in 2005. McCurdy also served as the linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator at Diablo Valley College in 2006.

Winning cures all. It’s not hard to support a winner and if the wins keep coming, the money and support will increase as well. Increasing and maintaining alumni support is essential to a successful program; winning makes that goal easier. No doubt Coach O and Coach Biaz being alums and former players had inside tracks on other fellow alums with or without football ties, but there are thousands of other alums (like myself) that have no ties to the program who should/could be solicited for support and would most likely be willing to donate/support in one capacity or another given the recent success. Hopefully this program’s marketing plan isn’t solely dependent on coaches to maintain and increase support.
