First Scrimmage

Well the first real action of the coming season occurred last night. Some observations:

The team looked a lot further along than last year at this time. I expected our offense with more returners to roll. Either we have more to work on or the young defense is going to be pretty good. Offense looked sluggish. I expected a strong line with the addition of two higher level guys but they got pushed around. Understand there is no competition for spots as the O-line was set before camp started. They may want to re-think that one.

Kuresa looked good and everyone should be excited there. The backfield seems OK but #33 surprised as a new option. Probably some competition is still open to fill in our receivers. Kraught seems his dependable self. Still hoping that Penn will grow comfortable in his new role. At this point it looks like we are stronger going to the outside than trying things in the middle.

If the defense keeps improving it eliminates the primary concern going into this season. They were aggressive and played well together. The D-line more than held their own against a more experienced offense. Outside of a couple obvious interference calls downfield the Dbacks played really tight and tough. Keep working on growing our linebackers and we are going to be tough to score against. It was a good start. Let's see what happens next week...
