Just love knowing who we are recruiting. More than anything else, I feel it is important to keep our SID informed. :kisswink: (he knows I'm kidding).

Anyway, I found a whole slough of Utahan's being pursued by the Cats. Doesn't that just warm your hearts!! LOL

Logan Rice 6-6 230 OT from Logan High School
Tanner Redding 6-4 190 WR from Bountiful High School
Derek Denney 6-4 270 OT from Layton High School
Jacob Hatch WR from Gunnison High School
Jacob Nelson 6-4 250 OT from Juan Diego High School

Reclamation project year #2!! I'll try to keep a current list. Gotta be honest though, I care far more for basketball, even though I lost my voice this last Saturday screaming at those PISS POOR refs. Gotta LOVE the Big Sky!!

Isaiah Wharton DB/CB from Orlando had committed to Weber, but received a Big Ten offer from Illinois and has since decommitted. He will be still coming on his visit to Weber though. I think the move is wise of him. If I were in his shoes, I'd do the same thing. Still would be awesome if he re-commits and decides to come to Weber in the long run. Would be a guy who would probably play four years here rather than 1 or 2 at Illinois. But it is Big Ten.

Why anyone would pass up the opportunity to get a free edumacation at an IVY league level University such as WSU is beyond me. Also one could argue that The Big Sky is one of the highest ranked conferences there is for FCS football.

Check out this 2-Star recruit who has Weber State high on his list. Loves the Coaching Staff, School, and the chance to maybe play early. Weber sent a Coach over to watch him when they played EWU.

And his name is Gunnar! Perfect name for a QB.

Guess Coach Hill was serious about recruiting local kids. Offered Weber High RB/LB Auston Tesch today, his first full day on the job.

Baron Bruce OT 6'3" 265 lbs from Alta High commits to Weber State. Reported by Trevor Phibbs from DesNews.

Stetson Wood 6'5" 258 OL/DL from Layton HS has committed.

The new staff has not made contact with Gunnar Amos, QB recruit mentioned in this thread. Usually when new coaches come in they look at those players already offered and let them know their status. Gunnar is frustrated because he really liked Weber and would at least like to know where he stands. Fairly, unprofessional not to contact the player, especially considering his dad is a long time (very successful) High School Coach. On the bright side it looks like Sac. State may offer him with Coach Sears taking over as the DC, rumor has it.

I went back and watched the highlight film of Gunnar. His bio lists him as 6'1'', 195. He looks more like 5'9'', 165. He has a good set of wheels, runs well with the ball, but has average arm strength. He does not look like an impact player at our level. He might be someone who could develop, over time, into a D1 prospect.
We have guys just like him in the program now. One more wouldn't hurt. It just wouldn't help that much, right now. :coffee:

I have know Gunnar and his family for years and I can tell you he is 6'1 and currently almost 200 lbs. He is holding 5 offers at this point which I think is probably more then most players that commit to Weber. I did not post to debate his ability as a player, the offers indicate that at least some schools think he is good enough. I posted stating that one way or another the new coaches should contact him and let him know his status. This business is all about relationships and to not let any kid know where he stands let alone the son of a high school is just bad business.

I agree that the coaches should be contacting these players who may have been recruited by the previous staff. If they haven't done so, I wouldn't know why. They may have tried and not been able to make the connection. I don't know. However, I do know this, communicating is a two way deal. Recruits can call to talk anytime they want. Coaches are more restricted by NCAA rules. He could probably clear it up any time he wants to.

With only one holdover from the previous staff it's no surprise that some of their recruits are going to fall through the cracks or will no longer be pursued by the new staff.

True that it is a two way street and that some recruits will fall through the cracks. Coach Amos told me he has called Weber a number of times and left messages, including Coach Swan who happens to recruit Idaho. Plus, with Coach Amos being a high School coach there is no restrictions on calling him at anytime. Again if they do not see Gunnar as a kid they want to recruit that is up to them, but the lack of communication is not the way things should be done.

Austin Funkhouser, 5'10" 195 lbs, RB, Hagerman, ID has commited.

This kid looks good. Last time we go a running back out of a small town in Idaho, he turned out to be quite good. Hopefully, this is another one. Looks like he is a tough kid too. So far, so good. :coffee:
