No, it's not the Hornets.

If you're in the Sac area today, it's the home opener for the Sacramento Sirens, who totally destroyed the expansion Modesto Maniax 71-0 last week to open the season. Wingback Ashlee Sharp returned two punts for touchdowns and her backfield mate Amy Williams matched her with two offensive touchdowns. Reserve quarterback Amber Mitchell even got into the act by scoring on an option play near the goalline. Williams doubles as a safety and literally NOBODY throws in her direction. Starting quarterback Chantelle Powers is a bit reminiscent of Jeff George and has a cannon for an arm.

Game time is 6 PM at Natomas High, the new home field this year. (3301 Fong Ranch Rd, Sacramento) Admission is only $10 for a great game atmosphere. The visitors are the dreaded California Quake from Long Beach. Next week is a roadie at the Seattle Majestics.

Sacramento is on a roll. The Sirens whipped up on California 46-0. That's two straight blowout shutouts.

Next week in Seattle against the Majestics. Two weeks from now at home entertaining the Corvallis Pride. Our two games with Seattle should go a long way toward showing whether or not we have a shot at the world title again this year. Sac won it three times in a row 03-05.

I don't know if it was jet-lag or what, but Sac took it on the chin on Saturday, losing to the Seattle Majestics 33-8. No stats are available; the Sirens' website at least acknowledges the score; the Seattle website isn't updated at all, and no stats are available at the league website.

In our region, the SoCal Breakers shut out the expansion LA Amazons 42-0, the Portland Shockwave trounced the Corvallis Pride 20-7, and the California Quake apparently recovered from their drubbing in Sac to destroy the New Mexico Menace 61-0.

Next week sees the Tier II (i.e. limited schedule) Oakland Banshees @ Portland, California (out of Long Beach) at LA, and Corvallia in Sac. We'll see if the loss was just an aberration.... I'll have to talk to Amber, I guess.

Sirens are back to their winning ways, defeating the Corvallis Pride 39-0 Saturday night at Natomas High.

In other regional games, there was either a tight defensive game in Portland or a forfeit as the Shockwave beat the Oakland Banshees 2-0. The expansion LA Amazons beat the California Quake. Looks like there will be a better match that Modesto gave us when LA comes up here in June.

The Sirens won another one on the road yesterday, busting out the brooms on the California Quake in Long Beach 34-14. Those are the first points given up by the Sirens in games played within the state of California. Given that the box score indicates that both Quake TDs came in the 4th quarter is not a good sign, however....

As per usual, no further stats are available.

Do these ladies pay their own way for everything? Do you have a link to a roster?

Except for those who have individual sponsorships from outside companies, yes, the girls pay their own way.

You can find the roster at www.sacramentosirens.com.
