From an outsiders perspective......

I just wanted to drop by your board and tell your program congrats on a good win on the road and definate progress in your program. But it appears that anything positive on this board falls on def ears. I realize that most of you (Not all of you Super Hornet and Hammer Head Dad) are too arrogant and full of yourselves for this to make any sense to you...... But how about a little bit of posativity? What the hell do you all have to be so high and mighty about. Jeez, you act like Montana fans without the championships to hold over everyones heads. How does a fan base get so damned spoiled without ever having ANY success. And how you have what appears by everyone in the big sky conference to be an up and coming team and all you want to do is blast your team and coaches for what? Winning against Northern Colorado on the road? Would you rather be a Northern Colorado fan?
I have visitied this board a couple other times, most notabley after wins, and all most of you do is find something or someone to criticize or bash. I started coming on this board because I was envious of the success that your program was having and is some ways was wishing that I could be part of it. But Let me be the first to say that I would be ashamed to be a Sacramento State fan if it means I have to act like you guys. PATHETIC.

For you fans that have stayed relatively positive out there...... Please disregard this message. It is meant for those arrogant bastards that think that they are smarter and above your program.

I would say good luck against the Bobcats this weekend but I am sure that someone is already predicting doom and gloom and since your all so damned smug, telling you that your wrong might start an argument that I don't want to be part of.

God Bless from an Idaho State Alum

I have calmed down about the second half now. A win is a win. And its a good win to learn from...

Thank you Outsider. I was devastated for your loss yesterday. Keep up your spirits too.

I honestly couldn't agree more. Anyone who is upset over the fact we got a W yesterday because of the prevent d in the second half has quickly forgotten the way this team looked 5 years ago, when we were dog sh!t.

When we've won a playoff game, hell, even had a winning record, then we can complain about style points. Until then, a win is a win is a win is a win.

Good post, I tend to believe that those so put out on this board are wanna be coaches or have a relative further down the depth chart. The Hornets have become a team you can root for and bring kids to game. They have a ton of local kids with the coaches recruiting locally. We have so far to go to be like Montana but we are going in the right direction. The same is true of the basketball program getting local kids. That is the way it should be. So don't expect Montana like results every week, it is not going to happen any time soon. We need to build local support and fans. I don't mind seeing second guessing, but the personal attacks are just way out of line.

Croxdale stepped up big time and Badger was amazing. This offensive line has cleared a path for so many different running backs it is time they get some serious recognition.

I hear you, Outsider. At times it can be a bit discouraging to read the vitriol that comes from the poison keyboards. Sometimes the overreaction, constant negativity, and personal attacks are pretty off-putting, and you just have to look away for a little while. But I also believe these posters want the best for the Hornets, and aren't just staring at the sun and complaining about headaches.

There are just some passionate followers of the program that want a top tier team NOW, and feel they have waited too long for that to happen. But I also think that their lives would be less stressful if they embraced a more realistic outlook on the time it might take to build that top tier program. This is not a linear progression. There will be the inevitable frustrating lapses caused by the missing puzzle pieces, as well as the surprising wins and individual performances that elevates optimism.

I think much of the problem has been the expectations going into this season. When the Coach makes repeated statements about how improved the team speed, athleticism, and all around talent is, a reasonable fan might think that translates into more wins than the previous year. A rabid fan will think this is the year we win conference and pound Montana into submission. If this year’s schedule had two patsies on it like last year rather than the tough teams we faced this year, maybe the bitching would be less pronounced and we would have a better record. But we would be no further along building the program.

Which, incidentally, by all reasonable and objective standards is a program that has made obvious and concrete improvements in every important area----recruitment, facilities, and team cohesion and character----and some good wins. These are the building blocks that translate into a long term, solid program. Again, it takes some time, and progress is not always linear.

Nobody can watch the second half yesterday and not get frustrated by the conservative play calling and schemes that almost coughed up a sure win. But it was, after all, a win. And you can only complain so much about that before starting to look ridiculous. I think the coaching staff is a pretty a good one, though, and I hope they can learn and adapt along the way. Sperbech seems to be a hard working and intelligent coach that has moved up to the next level, but has been schooled a bit by some of his peers at times this year. I am hoping he is learning all the time right along with the players, and I believe he is. Case in point, the fake punt against NAU after being on the receiving end of imaginative play calling in the Montana game. Big momentum shifts in both situations.

Finally, Outsider, maybe some of this negativity is just the nature of the internet beast. If you look at any other active board in the BSC, most of them are calling for the execution of the Coach----especially Montana! I think it’s just the way it is.

I end this with the admission, never seen before in this forum, that I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

This post was obviously geared towards me so I will gladly and respectfully respond. I want to make it clear that I support this Hornet team and Sac State athletic department no matter what. Have my posts been negative? Sure. Have they been accurate? I’d like to believe so. I just call it how I see it both successful and unsuccessful aspects. Have I calmed down from the 2nd half implosion and near disaster? Of course. A win is a win and of course I happy for it and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

Outsider, I am grateful you find time to come to our board and post as I see that as a respectful move, however comparing some of us to Montana posters is completely over the top. We (I) don’t go trolling onto other schools boards to rag on their respective teams and spew trash talk. Nor do we walk around with a “holier than thou” mentality that reeks of many of the Montana posters. We understand where this program has been and where it is headed, we only want the best for it. Yes this program is headed in the right direction, yes it’s improving, but there is still plenty of work to do. My frustration with the defensive play calling is that there has been little to no change in philosophy or schemes and virtually no in game adjustments made by the coaches. And for this to continue all season long has just been unbearable. You being an ISU fan would believe me to assume that you understand this frustration.

How does a fan base get so damned spoiled without ever having ANY success.

Way to show some class Outsider. I’m not sorry that I hold the Sac State coaches and administrators to a high standard and demand quality and competitive play from the all of the Sac State athletic programs. I refuse to lower the bar and will not let my definition of success change because of a few down years we had in the past. If you or anyone has a problem with this ideal that I hold, then that’s just too bad. I refuse to be a sheeple and just blindly swallow and follow whatever it is these people put in places of leadership and power do. This is how I feel across the board in all aspect of life, not just Sac State athletics.

But Let me be the first to say that I would be ashamed to be a Sacramento State fan if it means I have to act like you guys. PATHETIC.”
I can go in so many directions with this coming from an ISU fan, but I’ll take the high road. I’ve visited the ISU board and the stuff here with respect to calling out coaches is absolutely nothing compared to what people post over there.

I would say good luck against the Bobcats this weekend but I am sure that someone is already predicting doo and gloom and since your all so damned smug, telling you that your wrong might start an argument that I don't want to be part of.
I have no problem with someone saying I’m wrong and I’m more that willing to engage in respectful arguments so long as logical and reasonable points are made; something you failed to do in this post. I can lie and say I was pulling for ISU to pull the upset yesterday, but the fact is a Montana loss to ISU would only discredit the Big Sky come playoff selection time. The Big Sky needs all the playoff bids it can get to garner some respect for the conference.

Sorry I was composing this as DC posted his response. Well said DC.

Personally, I just think that we allowed pre-season expectations to morph into frustration. The second half of the UNC game was mainly a fan's (or many fans') reaction to a clear violation of the principles of defense by a guy who as a coach should know better.

Overall, we are MUCH improved from the Mooshagian days. So we're not going to win the national title this year like I thought. Doing it THIS soon was a bit ambitious. But the fact remains that we DO have an improved football team, and nay-saying Griz fans aside, the Hornets will be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Sky for years to come. The NC may not come as quickly as I would like, but we ARE on the path to get there.

I talked to a buddy who was at the game yesterday. He said after the game the players were happy. They got a win! They weren't talking about how they almost lost. They got a win. The program is on the rise. The boys are happy after a win. Let's give them credit.
John Elway was also at the locker room exit talking and taking pics with family/friends/players.

Ever read the Kings board? Or any sports board?

How do you almost blow a 31 point lead? From a defensive coach who has been here 16 years?

They aren't style points, it is a measure to see how/if/where the team has made the next step to be a consistent contender. It was a chaotic, completely asleep at the wheels 2nd half yesterday. We had completely lost control. You measure character under fire and yesterday we thought we were French and waived a white flag in the second half. You practice four days a week to reach perfection, why not coach three hours the same way?

As an ISU fan, I feel sorry for you and your program. If all ISU fans take your rose petal position ISU will always be a laughingstock. Just sign Stromboli to another five year stint and you can all be pals. You gonna send him a Christmas card too?

I am objective, having no relatives related to current coaches or players. If you are going to do something (play football), be the absolute best you can be and take no prisoners. How long does it take to 'build' a program? Look at Old Dominion who is 7-2 in their FIRST year of playing football.

Oh yeah, it was a win.

To tell you the truth, I'd much rather listen to coachsperbutt than SD Hornet. SD Hornet is waaay too windy
plus coachsperbutt has a lot more common sense. We could use more posts from coachsperbutt and fewer from the overly dramatic crowd.

What can I say, I just like hearing myself type. :P ;)

Its nice to hear the voice of reason once in awhile. <standing ovation>

I've been to your dome several times and love the Pocatello area. I hope Idaho State makes a comeback and gets competitive as well. Look at what the Vandals have done this year. It can be done. We both have a long way to go, but I feel we've turned the corner with having a winning conference record so far this year and winning two conference games on the road is a huge improvement. Who could care more about anything else. In fact, i think we've won every game we should have and one we likely shouldn't have won (NAU) so I'm pretty thrilled. If we get MSU and UCD it will be a season to really be proud of. This was a much, much tougher schedule than last year.

Let's lock this topic. It was BS from the start.

Go Hornets!

Happy B-Day fellow Devil Dogs. Semper Fi!
