Future NFL Prospects

Drafted? my guess is none. Though I do think there could be 2 to 4 invited to camps as undrafted free agents. Which is still something to be VERY proud of. :thumb:

I think that Jeff Fleming and Bryan Hilliard are potential late round picks. I would add Kyle Monson to the list, but I suspect that his height will cause teams to overlook him. But I think he will be invited to a camp as a FA.

Don’t forget about Nash. Probably not a draft pick but probably gets an invite to camp somewhere.

No 2012'ers will get drafted. I think Nash, Deadder, and Reed may get tryout or camp invites.

I believe Bryan Hilliard said last year he is done with football. Don't blame him considering his shoulders are put together with ikea bolts and Elmer's glue... Guy gave his body for Hornet fooball.

Nash is an All American if he can't get drafted or make a camp that hurts Sac State. How about Ryan McMahon?

Nash is undersized, and slow in comparison to other prospects at his position. His best shot is to go the Dane Fletcher route (MSU DE to Patriots OLB) and hope for the best. He is a hard worker and has a motor that won't quit, but the odds are stacked against him. Except for the ISU game, he really struggled this year without Christian Clark on the inside.

Ryan McMahon will be a top 3 or 4 defensive player for us next year, but the likelihood of him getting drafted in '13 is near 0 as well.

You are making it sound impossible to get drafted out of Sac State. Trumaine Johnson plays in the same conference and he is projected to go 2-3 round. I believe at least one or two guys should get drafted out of Sac State.

Oh yeah! Nash definitely has one of the best shots of any current/recent Hornets to make it to the pros.

It's not a slight on Sac State because kids don't get drafted, just being realistic. To have 3 or 4 invited to NFL camps as free agents is fantastic in itself. The NFL doesn't gamble that often on over achievers, they would rather grab a kid that fits the MOLD of the postion they are drafting. The undersized over-achievers are for Free Agents. It's the same reasons the BIG FBS schools recruit the kids they have out of HS. Typically the kids recruited for FCS level were missing something in one facet of their game, but have the potential to play D1...

I have seen Trumain play in HS many times. He was under the radar by the big schools, because of how he was used in HS. It happens sometimes.

I think Fleming, Deadder, Reed, and Nash may get invites as FA. The only too that may get drafted is Deadder (based on his size and pro day) and maybe Flemming (based on interest from teams and his invite to that other combine). Nash is undesized for his position in the NFL, though his motor would give him a chance to reinvent himself in another position.

Well said. I think it's been 8 years since we last had a player drafted? Fred (Otis) Amey was a FA for the niners and Sac State studs like Ramon Payne, Cyrus Mulitalo, and Christian Clark go on to do other things 99% of the time.

I think Deadder would be worth a FA pick up for some team looking for a Jordy Nelson-type skill set. He has to stay healthy though. I don't know that Fleming has the NFL arm, but I could be wrong. It's always exciting though!

I don't see Fleming as a QB in the NFL either. I have a feeling teams may be looking at him as a possible WR...I could be wrong but I think thats what they were trying to move him to at NM, before he transfered.

All of you have very valid points but how about the kids like Fleming, and McMahon that have have came from FBS schools and for whatever reason decided to leave their school and play at Sac State? I would think the NFL would have more interest in them then a regular Sac State recruit?

There were many FCS guys in the NFL Combine and many of them were FBS transfers...

Thoughts?

Just a thought...If they were struggling to get playing time at a larger school/more competitve conference...what makes you think they would be able to compete at the highest level or against the highest caliber players? Again i am not saying they can't or won't make an NFL squad, but the reality is that most (97% est) college players won't make it to the NFL.

Just like recruiting kids out of HS is not a science, neither is drafting kids out of college...but NFL teams have plenty of resources to find possible players..more so than the recruiting budgets of the best schools..if any of the kids coming out of Sac St or the Big Sky have a potential to make it, they will be invited to a camp one way or another (draft or FA)...if not, there is always the CFL, and even Arena Football to quench their thirst.... :twocents:

Fox Sports released their annual seven round mock draft... Interesting that they have Zack Nash going in the 6th round to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

and they have him listed as a LB which is interesting, I wonder if he has the speed for that position

:thumb: :thumb: Two Thumbs Up

#1 because I am a Steelers fan, and they are great a drafting overachievers and kids with great motors, then transitioning them into new postions and high producing NFL players :D
#2 Would be awesome to for the Sac State program to have a kid drafted

There are still a few others thay may get in with the late rounds or FA invites...
