Future of Sperbeck and Coaching Staff

Without a doubt, we have the best talent in the Big Sky, including all the Big Sky newcomers as all of the regular posters state each week, and are now talking about their favorite players. What will Wanless do if we have have no more than 6 wins next season (5th season at the helm) and do not challenge for the Big Sky title and are left out of the playoffs again? Also, forgot to mention our facilities are among the best! Food for thought.

Nothing as I think Sperbeck is under contract through the 2012 season. Hell Wanless might sign him to a lifetime contract after posting a winning season. Katz got a 5 year extension for going 11 and forty something in his first two years.

We were 10 points from a one loss season this year. And don't forget, the loss was to a potential BCS bowl school. He's shown me enough progress to justify a hefty extension.

there's a whole bunch of people on the yolo-side of the causeway who would love to see you get rid of Sperbeck.

you guys have the right guy in place there; making that final step is the toughest.

and..had it not been a monsoon last saturday, wasn't a 7-4 record a pretty good possibility?

There's only one guy I would countenance firing Sperbeck to get, but these guys don't want to hear that name.

Sperbeck isn't going anywhere (unless someone hires him away from us). Anyone posting that we should be going in another direction is obviously named Moosh.

Yeah, my concern is what SD mentioned - Sperbeck getting hired away from us. FBS schools can really make some attractive offers. I worry about Nevada stealing him away should Ault decide to retire from coaching and just be the A.D. Not too far from Sac, a lot better pay, FBS in the MWC and his alma mater. It might be hard to pass up.

Yea maybe so, but don't you think if a FBS school was looking for FCS coach they might want one with a proven appility to win?

Plus he is a Reno grad.

Surely by this time, you didn't think I'd suggest Mooshagian?

as good a job that Sperbeck and staff did this year, the most important coaching decision of the year? The head coach at New Mexico State NOT naming Fleming the starter. The season might have been much, much different had Fleming not shown up just before this season, after MBT got hurt.

Despite their 2-9 record, the QB down at NMSU is having a pretty good year. Maybe the decision worked well for both QB's.

SH, do you still have a man-crush on Angus?

While I would love to hire either Angus or Jonny O as the next Hornet HC, I wouldn't fire Sperbeck to get to either of them. Besides, neither of those names would raise the ire of fellow Hornet fans as much as the one guy I WOULD fire Sperbeck to get.

Remember Sperbeck’s regime has gone light-years to fix the APR. That’s another big reason for Wanless to put up with 6-5.

P.S. Let’s see what the recruiting class looks like.

great point, Fajadadu. i think those efforts on the APR show up on the field also. much more disciplined play the past few years. i don't think that's a coincidence.
