Coach Sperbeck is the perfect fit for the Hornets, we are very lucky to have him at the controls! Hometown guy, lots of recruiting connections, stays on point with his vision for the program and works hard to achieve it. No hype, BS or complaining as we have seen here before just a firm honest effort to improve and succeed. Coach Sperbeck took over a program that was badly broken and had been for a long time. As was mentioned the APR was in the tank, the team was not disciplined and the talent level was low. All of these things have improved along with a resilience that the team has shown that we all should appreciate and be proud of weather they win or lose. As anyone that has been a competitive athlete or a coach knows the win loss record does not always tell the whole story. There are many variables in athletics that affect the results, injuries, a mistake at a crucial time, a bad bounce of the ball, bad calls etc. all have the potential to overcome preparation and talent. People talk about how lucky we were that Jeff Fleming came along just before MBT was injured and we were. Even more amazing is that we lost 6 starters to injuries and still had enough talent and depth to finish 3rd in the Big Sky. This is due to the recruiting expertise of the coaching staff, if this had happened several years ago, especially as early as happened this season we would have been finished. One interesting thing I heard about Coach Sperbeck was that he had about a .500 win loss record in his first 5 years at Foothill College then won 85% of his games the last ten years.
Appreciate and enjoy what we have in place people!
