Future schedules....

It would be nice if they could stick to Mountain West and WAC Conference teams, those would at least have a chance for a win. But the program could probably get a bigger payday from the Pac 10 schools which is understandable. I’m more curious to know how they are going to schedule their other non-conference game. Scheduling down to a DII like Humboldt State would be nice to get a win and confidence for the team early in the season.

I really don't care what league the paycheck comes from. I am ok with the Pac 10 because they pay more than the WAC or MWC teams. I would like to see us schedule a lower level team early not so much for the probable win but to get the timing down and take a look at a lot of players in a game situation. I think that this is especially important as we build the roster with freshmen and JC transfers. I think that the game with Humboldt last year had a lot to do with our strong showing at Colorado State the following week. If we had say Humboldt this year after UNLV instead of Cal Poly , and then a bye I think that we would have a better prepared to begin the BSC the following week. With 8 BSC games, one paycheck game and the davis game we only have one optional game per year to benefit the program, we might as well take advantage of it.

I don't know what a 2-for-1 with South Bend means. However, I would like to see teams in CA. There is plenty of competition in our state to keep us busy. I liked the games against Ploy. I am know we are ready to take the trip again and again. Humboldt is always fun. I would like to see a Fresno game every year. We really need to concentrate. We have awesome football in CA. Lets focus and make our teams a focus. There is no reason to go to the backwards biblical belt or out nowhere's-ville Colorado.

I thought Pat Hill the Fresno State coach said that they were going to rotate playing us, davis and Poly.
I know that Poly is playing there next year so our turn would be in 2011. I would also like to see us play Nevada Reno. Easy to get to and since only Sac, davis Humboldt and Reno are the only football teams left from the old Far Western Conference we have some history with them.

During the radio half time show of the last Sac State vs. UNR football game, the athletic director said the Wolf Pack would never play Sac State or a 1aa type school again. She said they would schedule up and not down. Since then, UNR has played Notre Dame and Missouri to name a couple.

Well, last year she did schedule down and brought Grambling in...I know they are a bit different, but still, they are an FCS school.

I was taking Volek's idea a step farther in an attempt to get a home game with a major. On the RARE occasion a major allows this, it's usually in a 2-for-1 deal. That is, the "lesser" team plays two roadies at their place and the "big boys" come once to the smaller school, usually in the middle. It's more common for hoops than for football, but it's not unknown.

And anyone who's anyone in the world of sports knows who plays in South Bend.... As if Volek wasn't talking about it every day he coached the Hornets....

I think it is unknown in football. Name me one "big boy" BCS school that has played a game at an FCS venue in the past five years. I've never heard of it.

In the last 5 years I can't even think of one FBS school playing at an FCS school. It's a lose-lose for them...

Nobody said they'd actually go through with the idea. They'd likely sign the 2-for-1, play the two at their place, and then buy their way out of the road game.

There IS precedent, though, in a roundabout way. In the mid-90s, the Sagarin ranked the Big Sky higher than a certain I-A conference that shall remain nameless (mostly because they no longer sponsor football as a conference). A Pac-10 school played a road game against a school in that conference. So it could be said that a FBS school played a road game against a FCS-caliber foe. (Incidentally, the Pac-10 LOST that game. Heh. Heh.)
