Game Day...Abilene Christian

Going to be me a much tougher game today. Run the ball, play sound defense and hope our young and inexperienced secondary doesn't get torched tonight. ACU has some talent, and although we usually have success against Southland schools, this is going to be a tough game. They played well against Air Force too last week too.

Welcome to Abilene. Expect to see a very different team than the banged up, demoralized team that limped into your stadium last November. We will start a new QB (Sophomore Dallas Sealey) a slew of new WR's and the same starting RB (Junior De'Andre Brown) who ran for 176 yards against the Bears last year. This year he will be backed up by freshman Tracy James, shown here against Air Force last week. Expect this to be a high scoring affair......should be exciting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ACVpVf0GgQ

I'll throw this out for a conversation starter: What's your prediction for the score? Betting line is pick em....Over/Under 63. ACU scored 36 last year with a make shift line that gave up 5 sacks to your D. Cats are 10 points better than that this year. ACU 46-UNC 27.

Offense is looking great with Sloter at the helm, and the D is hanging tough. Hopefully Knipp isn't severely hurt. Long ways to go, but hopefully we hang on to this one.

We are lucky to have pulled out a win in that game. It's the tale of two game plans that fly in the face of each other...first, start out strong, use your top backs and dominate the field. Then, sadly, Boyer falls back into his predictable and losing ways of run, pass, run, punt.....and what are we? A peewee team where every player gets to touch the ball? Why stop playing to your top players when we were dominating the game? SMDH....

Guys, Sloter's performance is no surprise. He has never been given a chance to run with the 1's. He was finally put into a game at QB when it meant something and now you can see what he can do! He had video game stats tonight! He probably would have had another touchdown if a 35 yard pass in the 3rd quarter wasn't dropped. Give him first team reps and he might be better! This probably won't happen, but I can tell you what would be the best for the team, they should medical redshirt Knipp and let Sloter run this team. That would leave us with 3 more years for Knipp!

Of course I figured someone would complain about this game. It was about 3 years ago UNC would have lost a game like this. Defense played horribly, but give credit where credit is due. I thought Boyer called a pretty good game. He knows his x's and o's. As far as using our top backs...well...we did. However, I think Trey was held out the last quarter because of concussion protocol. We have depth there, it's Trey and then everyone else.

The offense put up 55 points, and moved the ball with ease with our backup quarterback. Boyer had a couple of questionable calls, but who doesn't in the course of a game? Overall, he called a solid game and the offense executed the game plan. I haven't been a huge Boyer supporter, but you are reaching big time by insinuating he didn't call a good game. This was a solid plan, and the players responded with their execution.

Now about our defense...

I watched the whole game, btw. Sloter looked awesome running the offense, but I'd still love to get Knipp back so we don't end up burning a redshirt on our freshman third teamer.

The defense really needs to clean it up. If they didn't get penalized so much, this could have been a palatable game for them. In the future, their mentality should be disciplined football and "bend but don't break." Understand that your offense is going to put some points up, and that you don't have to win the game yourselves. Just don't make mistakes, don't take penalties and make some stops here and there. Easier said than done, but that is the approach they should take.

I agree, years and years of always losing the close games in any myriad of ways it's awesome to see a close win regardless of all the defensive issues...

Happy for the win. Lets hope for some improvement with the Defense. So has anyone heard how Riek and Knipp are doing ? Any others on the injury report ?

According to the trib http://www.greeleytribune.com/news/23896402-113/sloter-earns-fcs-player-of-the-week-nod# Knipp is out for season. Sloter did a heck of a job. Will post some pictures later this week as was at game since I live down in Texas now.

Yikes. I like Sloter, but Knipp was the starter for a reason. This also means Mott (or whatever his last name is now) will most likely burn his redshirt year. This sucks.
