Game Day Thread EWU 35 @ UNLV 33

Wowza... that would've been a disaster had it ended differently. Eastern was so much better over 60 min+ that it really shouldn't have ever been that close. Barriere definitely found his mojo in the second half. Plus, the running game showed some signs of life.

We gave up SIX possessions because of bad special teams mistakes... 3 blown FGs and 3 blown kickoff returns. Our offense was better, our defense was better, but our special teams was so much worse that it almost cost us the game. We can't keep screwing ourselves with special teams. Missed FGs... I suspect that'll correct itself. I mean, Harrison has done well in the past, but he was awful today. But trying to return the kickoffs in bad spots and starting deep in our own half and potentially getting TOs and penalties (we had one of each) isn't gonna get it done against better teams.

Plus, dear Lord, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT RETURNING A KICKOFF IF YOU WON'T MAKE IT PAST THE 25! I don't understand why Eastern so routinely does this. So far, we've started at the 17 and 9 yard lines. That's bad when the other team scores and you voluntarily take possession deep in your own territory.

Just pointing out that this was my halftime thought, and we almost lost by doing it again. Clean that shit up.

EB is the most overrated EWU QB in 20
Years. He literally does nothing well but run. So damn erratic.

Wow!
Clueless often?

Wow. Homer often

Let's hear your critique now dumbass.

Depending on what was meant, there's no question Barriere can be streaky. He's at his zenith when he's committed to running the ball whenever it's available to him. He looked kind of shackled in the first half, but seemed like he was free to be creative in the second half... and you saw how much better he played. At the end of that game, he was feeling it. There are times he frustrates me as well; that turnover in the first half being an example of it. He could've run for 10+ yards, but instead threw a wayward pass that got picked off. The good news is he makes some of those mental mistakes, but also makes plays like the long pass on 2nd and mile in the 4th quarter. You get what you get with Barriere. He can be brilliant one moment, boneheaded the next, and then a miracle worker all in the same drive.

Good win. Not a great opponent but there’s potential in this team. Special teams, egads.

Eags didn't need to take the "special" in special teams so literally as you and Dopa have pointed out. Hope that improves. Liked the aggressive D play style last night. It was effective. Not sure if it was UNLV's ineptitude or improvement by the Eags all the time but the DL got after it and made an impact, so the net net was awesome.

Well I didn't think Eastern would win this one and am glad to be proven wrong. Also enjoyed the play by play of the UNLV crew, wish all the BigSky homers could do as well.

Several DL in the top ten tacklers :thumb: Defense seemed cocky as well :thumb:

EB3 was indecisive enough to cause TO's and breakdowns, know he'll be better the rest of the season. OL got better after first possession. Shoemaker's play calling still doesn't make much sense all the time but he's stayed an Eag through all the coach turnover tumult so will give him some grace and try to remember these are all young men and it isn't personal. ;)

Would take these stats for D every game.... 12 TFL, 4 Sacks..
Defensive Comparison

Read where they brought in through portal a 4* who QB'ed in high school in Vegas (Tate Martell). Think they are high on him started out for Ohio St. then went to Miami then into portal. He's getting some hype and speculation on my part they also have some good wr's there and if they want to win any games in Mountain West they will need to throw. So, they may be throwing to get some kind of flow going into league. 35-31 EWU

Obzerver wins the golden balls award

D-line definitely earned the game ball this week. The defense kept our sluggish offense in this game and covered for special teams mistakes. It really didn't need to be this close, UNLV is not very good.
First of 11 games of the road to Frisco!!

I think this was Coach Best's first HC win against a FBS opponent. He gets a game ball too ;-)
