standard.net:
Eastern Washington is 0-4 for the first time since 1983 and received the latest in a spate of bad breaks Tuesday with the loss of senior linebacker and co-captain Zach Johnson, a third-team preseason All-American.
Eastern is the first defending national FCS champ to start 0-4 since 1984 and has to be perfect the rest of the way to reach the seven wins required to return to the playoffs.
"It makes them real dangerous," Weber State quarterback Mike Hoke said. "You know they're going to do everything possible to win because they have to win out to get to seven wins. It should be a real tough battle for both teams.
Weber State is 11th in the country in total offense and 14th in total scoring coming off two blowout wins over Sacramento State and UNC.
WSU has been better at taking care of the ball this season, with its turnover margin at 1.25, first in the league and 17th in the FCS.
Senior linebacker Mo Neal promises the Wildcats won't underestimate Eastern because of its record.
"No matter what anyone says, Eastern Washington is still the champion right now," Neal said. "A lot of the reason why they're 0-4 is not because they're not good, it's because they've had a lot of injuries. They're far from being a bad team -- they're still a top team."
