Most would agree the last 11 or so minutes was pretty sloppy, especially on the offense. Want to suggest they stopped running their offense, but it looks like there were a couple of penalties that negated good plays and set them way behind the sticks. Despite the OL not giving up any sacks, the blocking was so so..
That said, I saw A LOT of improvement in how the ground game plays were executed and definitely used to set up some of the passing game. Used more motion to either lead block or get the defense players eyes looking the wrong way. This wasn't totally effective as PSU had 9-10 guys within 8 yards of the line of scrimmage more often than not and I suspect that since Eastern hasn't done a much of this all season, PSU ignored some of it and as mentioned the OL could have done a better job of run blocking and had several holding calls away from the play that impacted the game plan late. Because of this slight change in the run game, Eastern used some play action that resulted in TD's.
I love Tamarick but he shouldn't be the 3rd and 2 back when the expectation is to go off tackle/laterally, so personnel was an issue a couple of times and Eastern never tried to take the top off the defense and PSU had a lot of defenders close to the line of scrimmage all game. This is the second game with McCann that the Eag's didn't air it out a little bit. Would like to think with the play action, streaks, stop n go's, wheels, deep posts or K routes would be open periodically. Know Boston can catch a ball in tight coverage ;-)
I think McCann has made subtle changes that could pay off in the playoff's. This will get DC's changing their game plans.
I'm not going to address the defense much, didn't like the game plan early, didn't see the trust necessary to beat a good team, missed Ely Doyle hope he can make it back on the field (don't know if it's physical or academic), tackling was awful and they didn't play "heads up" but other than that, held PSU to their season average were opportunistic enough to recover a couple of fumbles...
