The bar has been raised. We all want Wins. We are all contributing time and money and don't want to see or hear any excuses. Didn't we play that little pony coach a bunch of time before? Didn't we have some intelligence gathered on this guy? Was his game so different? Why wasn't the head coach watching? Why were we so tentative on offense? I can't even comment on the defense because they played almost the entire game.
Go Hornets!!!
He is a first year head coach for Cow Poly and they had a starting QB that threw a total of 7 passes last season, so knowing what was going to happen would have been nearly impossible.
To be fair, this Walsh ran a pro style offense back in days at Portland State and although Cal Poly ran the triple option the last two years, Walsh and his OC have added some different twist. One being moving a 240 lb FB to slot back and throwing to him (he was a WR in high school so he has great hands). Also the triple option is tough to prepare for in just one week because it will most likely be the only time you see it this year. Cal Poly switched defensively from the 3-4 flex defense to a 4-3 that Walsh ran at Portland State. The game film from there would help some, but because Poly's D-line and LBs are undersize for a traditional 4-3 they have made quite a few changes to take advantage of their strength which is speed. I would bet that Cal Poly is blitzing far more than Walsh did at Portland State.
I think Cal Poly has some talented athletes and are a good FCS team. Remember this is a team that went into Camp Randal and would have beat the Badgers if they had not missed three extra points. I think Sac State has a better team than some here are giving them credit for and I think that Sperbeck has the program heading in the right direction. I honestly believe that Cal Poly is a top FCS programs. They have not lost many game at home over the last five years. I do not say that to brag, I say it because this loss for Sac may have more to do with playing a good FCS team on the road than it says that Sac State has problems. This was a game that I was very nervous about and it may have been different had it been played in Sac.
Best of luck the rest of the way and kick some butt in the Big Sky and show them how good FCS football is in the best state in the United States.
