Getting more people to the board

So I love having a place to talk UNC football. Each of you are great to talk to and so positive about the direction of the team

So I was thinking of ways to get more people involved or at least draw some people to the board. I know Troy lurks around the board and gives some feedback, so I guess this is directed to him. I wonder if it would be possible to include a Question/Answer segment(s) on the game broadcast. This could be before or after the game or during halftime, possibly during some breaks in the game.

If we could get a thread specific to it every week with our questions to be read on the air. If we could find an easy way to direct people to the site in order to do so. I'm not sure if this is possible or would even help, but I've been trying to brainstorm ways to get people more invested to try to get interest and change the attitude and atmosphere of our fanbase.

Bottom line: If you want to "get interest and change the attitude and atmosphere of our fan base", we need to start winning !! Keep brainstorming ! I don't mean to be sarcastic but all losing does is breed hate and discontent and that's where this board and fan base is at the moment. The frustration level is over the top ! I believe there is a ton of interest but this lonnnnggggggggg losing spell has just beat fans down so bad they are tired of talking. On the flip side, I do like the idea of a question and answer segment.

I agree that real change is going to come from the top to change direction, but if there isn't enough investment by more fans to request these changes or provide a voice it could take much longer to change the course. Like you said, it's difficult with the team's winning issues (According to Brian's calculations since starting at UNC in 2008 I have seen UNC win only 15 times).

I think the fan base overall has experienced apathy about this team- they just don't care. At least on the forums we are invested enough to be mad and frustrated, instead of going "Oh well, we lost again" and fade away and stop showing up or tuning in. Frustration by the board aside, it is one of the few places (if not the only) place to talk about our football team, so the more the merrier haha. But even the Q and A segment would be great by our existing members, because I know I have some questions that pop up on gameday and it would be great to get that feedback from Troy.

I've wanted to add that type of stuff for a while, but the flaw is that we're pretty bare bones with how we staff the games. If stuff was gotten to me before game time, I could pull it off. During the game, since I also handle all of the technical stuff, it becomes something that there just isn't enough time for me to filter through.

Thanks for the reply Troy, and I greatly appreciate all you do on a weekly basis for the team and program. I never realized you were that involved in the operations. It would be interesting to see if we could get a questions thread going over the next couple of weeks to see the response from the rest of the board. Would it be possible to mention it in the broadcast to submit any questions on the forum for it to be answered before next the weeks game? I just wasn't sure if there were any restrictions or anything that could pose a problem. You are the expert, so I may defer a lot of this to you on how your broadcasts would like to be run.

Also I noticed that the new website is up (and looks great). I did notice that their is no link to this forum like a lot of sports team's site might do. Is there anyone from the school/anyone who knows if that could be possible as well? I'll keep throwing ideas to the wall and see if any stick at this point haha

You've got my support as soon as a change in the coaching staff is initiated...starting with Collins! Keep the DC, he is the reason we have 2 victories and played UNLV tough...other than that, a change must be made to garner interest!

I think the idea is more action on the boards, which is not entirely dependent on support for any specific program. We can be an important critical voice, when we feel the A.D. or a specific program (ie. Football) is not doing a very good job of representing the school. For that to happen, it would be nice to have more active members. For football, this place is like a self-help group for battered college football fans and I find it therapeutic.

I continue to be amazed at how few students visit these boards to talk about the sports at their school.
It would be cool if we could get some free publicity in the Mirror to let the students know we are here.

I love the idea of some sort of in-game communication with the broadcast team. I wonder if one of the other members of the team can filter through a few questions or comments and feed them to someone on air to either address during the broadcast/post game or later on.

Would be great for basketball as well but for basketball Troy seems like a jack of all trades, operating without a safety net so it may only work for football.

I really do think it has to do with the fact that no one knows about it. Finding ways to mention this board would at least get a few more people engaged, as it probably slips people's mind. I'm pretty sure I just stumbled across this board while browsing around. But I do feel like if the forum presence is bigger it may draw some focus from the Athletic Department and give them an insight to how the fan base is feeling.

I too believe that not too many people really know about it. I was lucky enough to find it by chance a few years ago. Another reason I feel there are not too many people on this board is the apathy brought on by years of losing. People are really damn tired of losing year after year and seeing the bad decisions made by administration, AD, coaching or whatever. I really think it would help if this board was advertised on the Bears Athletic Site. Or at least a link to get to it ! Also, the local Newspaper could do a better job of UNC promotion. Go look at the Bozeman news paper and there are Bobcat stories every day. look at what has happened at NDSU. We use to kick their ass !! Its really time for everyone to get their head out of their you know what and raise the bar ! :D

Years ago there was a link to this board on the athletic department webside but it was pulled. I can't remember what lame reason they gave exactly but I think it had something to do with not being able to control the content which basically means they didn't like that some people said some mean things...

If we start winning, this board will pop. That being said, Deadspin could have at least provided our link in their coverage...

It's definitely going to take winning to get this board going. A little promotion wouldn't hurt, but since the board has no association with he school I wouldn't expect it to come from there.

Oh and there also used to be a guy (he might still be on here) that would go to the games and take a bunch of great pictures and post them all on his own and they made him stop for some reason... in the past the athletic department has not been very welcoming or encouraging to fan communities online. This was years ago and under different leadership so maybe that attitude has disapeared. :|

I forgot about that. I wish I knew someone pressured him to stop because they can't make him do that. I would like to think that the new athletic administration is more fan friendly.
Forums like this keep alums interested and vested in the athletic programs. If it were not for this place, I doubt my interest would be nearly as high, seeing that I live 1,500 miles from Greeley.

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I'm starting to see the true colors of this athletic administration. They are no where near fan friendly and in general do not give off a professional "vibe". I'm not sure why it's so hard for this department to understand that alumni and fans should be a priority. This is a business and customers have to be taken care of.

Just a few examples: The delivering of season tickets after the first home game has taken place, the lack of response to forum questions on here, misprinted schedules (standup volleyball), facilities employees Lucas / Weston, sitting in court side seats during games and the director of the blue and gold club (Menan) walking around drinking beer during sporting events.

I know there are no rules against my last two examples but it's the impression these actions give to fans. Not a professional atmosphere.

I'm new to the boards and I love me some BEARS!! Having said that, want people to care? It is very simple... WIN GAMES. Clearly things need to change. It breaks my heart to see these players working their butts off every week for the same sorry result. Where things tend to change within the team year to year, the result continues.

I choose one game a year to make it out to and I'll be there next week to see my Bears get a W against the boys from Pocatello.

Go Bears!

I am glad to see a few new faces on the board! I agree though, winning is a good way to get the attention back. However, we have had some issues with that lately- so sometimes you got to take things into your own hands.
