Word is he's leaving EWU, and 1 or 2 others.

Any idea who? Unfortunate, as I thought EWU had a shot as a top 3 contender this next season...

It is sad for them if true, They would have had a better coach with Hayford next year. It is a case of the grass is greener. Maybe after talking with Coach they will change there minds.

I find it interesting that kids would leave at this point and for what? Not sure how it works though under these circumstances, do they have to get a release from the university? Will they loose a year of eligibility?
Any program they would go to is as much of an unknown as the new staff at Eastern.

AllWeatherFan,
I was on Campus today, I must say I am very happy of what I heard. :thumb: I did see Dean, and 9 other playrers. They are all coming back. I didn't see Forbes,Fisher,Hyslop,or Colomon (Little Cliff), however, Dean stated Forbes will be back. What I have heard, IMO, I think the team will be back in force.

I spoke to one of the Players, they are very much impressed with Jim Hayford, their New Coach. He had all the Players to is residence for dinner, all the Players did attend. Now that we have a New Coach,I will support him and see what progress we have made. This Coach will raise big money for the MBB Program, He have big backing from his former College, Alums. IMO,It seems that the Athletic Dept wants someone that raise funds for the program, he is the person that can do it.

Remember, April 1st, (Friday) is the 1st day of Football Spring Practice @4pm. I will be there, bad back and all.

Great news to hear Vic, thanks for the update. I'll be there on Friday. Can't wait. Go Eags!

Go back to EGriz, Purple. Hayford was on the radio yesterday and said no player he had met with was leaving. So either Hayford's a liar, Dean hasn't met with the coach yet, or you're a pot-stirring troll.

I vote for pot-stirring troll

.

That was the rumor/word.

I hope he, Forbes, Johnson, Coliman and all stay. The Eagles were looking great the 2 games I saw in Ogden, and could be a top 2 contender next season. The Big Sky needs stonger programs badly as next year could be rough on the RPI...

Hopefully the Eags can carry their weight this season on the bball front as the program has been the doormat the last 7-8 years... ISU and Sac is not good company to be hanging around with, and from what I saw earlier this month there is hope for Eagles fans...

WSUnPurple, and All
Spoke with Forbes today, he will be back. Two of the players are leaving, supposedly Shawn Fisher,Morgan Hyslip. I just hope what they told me is the truth. Forbes was shooting today, after he got finished, he ran the steps, and ran a few miles. He made me tired looking at him run, and I was sitting. :D

Also met Coach, he introduced himself to myself and my daughter. He stated he will make the Fans proud of the team.
OFF The Subject:
Saw Andru Pulu today, he is a "Big Mother"Shut Your Mouth" Doesn't look like any fat on him. If I had to stand in front of him, I would be trying to figure what direction to go to avoid him. Be 8-) . Hope to see some of you on Friday @ 4pm. ROOS FIELD. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic

Apparently, WSU purple isn't such a troll after all...

This is what I have been hearing for some time. Hope he decides to stay.

Did you actually read the article?

Still, Dean seemed not to be in a big hurry to make a decision after attending a team dinner at Hayford’s home on Monday and then meeting one-on-one with his new coach on Tuesday.

“I’m not closing the door on Eastern by any means,” he said. “Now, with Coach Hayford in and getting know him these last couple of days, he seems like he’s a really good guy. He’s given me the respect, and I need to give him the respect back."

Somebody's not telling the truth.

Yes, I did read the article.

WSU purple said "the word" was Dean, and maybe one or two others, wanted to transfer. I take "the word" to mean rumor, maybe others take it to mean fact. I heard the same rumor. You wrote that three outcomes were possible, one of those being WSU purple was a "pot-stirring troll". Another person voted for pot-stirring troll and yet another comes on to claim that no one is leaving.

But wait! The newspaper has an article that says Dean did want to leave EWU. He asked to be released from his scholarship agreement and the university declined that request. Now there will be a hearing in the next two weeks to determine whether he gets that release. My point is WSU purple's "word" was right. Dean asked for his release to transfer. He wanted to leave the program.

I hope he does not leave and find it encouraging that he is considering staying. Or at least that's what he's telling reporters. We will just have to wait to see if he stays and/or if anyone else decides to leave.

By the way, I was critical of the Spokesman-Review's coverage of the coaching change. So in fairness, I think Mr. Bergum has done a fine job this week of reporting the news surrounding this move. He reported the new coach before the day before he was announced and he uncovered the Dean story as well. Nicely done!

As I understood it, he requested permission to speak with other schools. Even if granted, it's not a done deal that he's gone; he's just shopping around to see if there's a better option for him. If not, he stays.

All Concerned,
I visited Campus today to check out the VB Team Practice. So happened, the MBB Team had shoot around @ 5pm. All players were at the shoot around including Dean. :thumb: The only two that was not there were Shawn Fisher/Morgan Hislop. We had 13 players there.

We will just have to wait and see what the outcome is reference Deans appeal. He seemed very happy at the shoot around, however, he seemed happy when I spoke to him in the PUB on Tuesday, when he told me he was coming back, then the Spokane Review came out with the article. Can't take every yes,etc for granted.

Time will tell one way or the other. Football Practice @ 4pm tomorrow. Check the Spring Roster for information. It is on the web site. Vic

Found an interesting blog posting on the Spokesman regarding Dean asking for a release. Pasted below. I hope the kid stays too. We can't lose him.....

"I was also suprised that Dean was even considering to leave given the AD’s prior comments pasted below from the press conference on Tuesday.

(The players, according to Chaves, did just that. And so far, Chaves knows of no player or players who plan on leaving.

“Something might still occur,” he admitted, “but at this stage of the game, nothing I know of. I get the feeling they’re excited about knowing who their coach is.”)

The AD did know and basically lied but since it was to protect the program and university it is alright. Whatever it takes to win. Hopefully Hayford can win this first recruiting battle and get Dean to stay!"

Not even sure why Dean would consider leaving.....the program is on the up and up even with the coaching change.

EWURanger,
For all it's worth, Glen did attend shoot around today. Hope this means he will stay around, if not we will have to hope for the best for our program. The three shoot arounds I have seen, all players were at the practice, all 13 players. Just have to wait and see what happen. Vic
