Good news and not so good news

Good news:
Heard the other day from some players that UNC has signed a offensive line transfer from Arkansas Pine Bluff. He supposedly was a starter last year as a true freshman. Sounds like he will have to sit out this upcoming season due to transfer rules but will help the program in the future.

Bad news:
Sure hope this isn't true but there are rumors floating around that Taylor Risner is leaving the team after he graduates next week to persue his masters degree at Kansas.

Yikes, I hope Risner sticks around, but he's gotta do what's best for himself. If grad school can't wait then he should go.

Why did he play all spring and take reps from other guys?

Agreed. I can't figure this one out. Why not quit after last season? Spring ball is a lot of hard work, conditioning, etc...It's not glamorous. I wonder why he went through all that just to give football up. I would have to believe he'll try to walk on at KU, and that's why he continued to train during the spring. Who knows. Huge loss if he goes.

Maybe he just decided that his continued education was more important that his final year of football. Maybe he was burnt out. Who knows. I would rather see a guy who has obviously moved on mentally, go ahead and leave the team, than to have him keep playing if his heart wasn't in it. He was (is) a great player and will obviously be missed. As for walking on at KU, they suck. He would be the best safety on their team from day one. He is a smart guy and I'm sure he weighed his decision carefully and did what was best for him. I wish him luck...

Hi everyone it's been awhile since I last posted and I thought this would be perfect to drop some real knowledge.

1) Why did Risner take spring ball reps?
- Coach Collins has threatened to many players to take their scholarships away if they don't participate in spring ball even if they decide football isn’t for them anymore, he would strip the scholarship and charge that student with all of the current semester fees and such. The same instance with Vandervedle, he was planning on just finishing his degree then quitting after that spring ball, he and risner both did this because some of their buddies got screwed over by Collins in the same situation.

2) He wasn’t burnt out of playing football, he as burnt out of the situation all of these athletes feel as football players for Collins, exhausted mentally and physically. Have any of you forum members ever talked to an ex-Collins player? I would be absolutely surprised if any of them had something positive to say. This is truly EMBARRASSING for unc football and athletics that their Male athlete of the Year quits before his senior campaign.

I guess we raise our glasses to Kay Norton because she is the only person we can thank for hiring E-daddy Collins

.

While I hate to lose Risner, I think Sharond Boyd is going to be a very good player for us. He might be able to fill that void.

Your words are seen and heard but don't expect much from this forum brother. People just don't care enough about football in Greeley and why would they. It's Greeley.

Hey numbear, we here in Greeley actually do give a crap about UNC football . I guess we are a little bit fed up when our suggestions, complaints etc. fall on deaf ears. So where are you from that makes you such an endearing knowledgeable fan ?

I actually agree with at least a small part of everybody's messages on this item. That said, I have been as critical as anybody on this message board. Because of that, I would like to put a little different spin on what is said on this site.
I'll bet that all of us had a child or two play a sport, and we may have said something critical about their coach(s). Not necessarily negative, just a critical comment. Do you remember how your kid responded? Probably not very good. Think about it, we encourage our kids to play sports and to listen to their coaches, then they hear their parents say something critical about the coach. My kids never liked it. And even though the UNC football players are all young men, I am sure that they don't like to see the negative comments on this site.
So here is what I am going to do. No more negative comments from Kaydee. Expressing my dissatisfaction about anything to do with the team, is as fruitless as placing a bumper sticker on my bumper and expecting something to happen because I thought the bumper sticker was making a profound statement.
Like Beardown, I think Sharond Boyd will fill in well. And I think Bloyer will also compete for the position. Btw, I will be hosting a tailgate before the first game and everybody is invited.
It's a Great Day to be a BEAR!

Very well said Kaydee. I also think Stone Kane will make an impact at the safety position too. Looking forward to your tailgate.

Lots of people care about Bears football, but over a decade of really horrible football has taken its toll.

I have only been really following UNC football since the 2012 season, so I can appreciate those who have been fans longer and are more frustrated. My decision not to make any more negative or critical comments is my way of dealing with a challenge. Everybody else has their own way, and I respect that. I think 2 Corinthians 12:9 says it best. In our difficulties and "weakness", we will learn to grow and be "powerful" thru God. I have been able to meet a bunch of football players and they ALL have been stronger by playing football at UNC. I give Coach Collins high marks for emphasizing the need to grow spiritually within the team.
Make sure you look for the Kaydee tailgate at the first game. Everybody is invited and there will be plenty of beers, burgers and dogs. And chips. Go Bears!
