I think finding ways to not actually play games is our best strategy moving forward. We avoided a fourth loss by not playing Florida earlier in the season, so we need to hope for a hurricane to strike the Front Range on Thursday or Friday of this week before the Bobcats come to town.... then we can hope for 12 feet of snow before the Southern Utah game, an earthquake in California before Sac State, an avalanche in Missoula, and then hail and tornadoes for Cal Poly in Greeley....

Yep - and our awesome defense guided by master-mind coordinator James Jones led the shutout. Didn't allow a score all day!

I agree that we need a much better defense. We probably have the worst defense in the whole league. I also notice that in last weeks Big Sky games the losing teams allowed 42,41,41,32,31 points and the winning teams allowed 21,20,19,17,16 points. That to me indicates that the whole league is weak in defense. If we want to be on the top we must find a way to recruit better defensive players. I don't know if even the best defensive coaches in the country could do much more with this current team. We need a good recruiter to go out and get those players that can do the job. This can be really difficult when you have to compete with all the FBS teams in the area as well as all the teams around the country that can offer so much more both legally and illegally.

That's fair. It isn't all on coach Jones. The recruiting on that side of the ball isn't there. There's probably two FCS talent guys, Michael Walker and Keifer Morris. The rest are D2 guys.

The excuse that there aren't enough FCS guys is way off base. Remember that this is the staff that collectively (meaning, nobody spoke up when the depth chart was made) choose to place Sloter second on the depth chart behind Knipp. Heck, what do NFL coaches know that the UNC staff doesn't? There is enough talent on the roster to win consistently in the Big Sky, but not with this staff. The two constants on this staff that have FAILED to get the kids ready are the HC and the OC. Both of them have NEVER coached a winning team two years in a roll (the two 6-5 seasons don't count cause they both included wins over D2 and NAIA schools).
Now here is the good news. Collins' enabler (Norton) is retiring and it looks like the Bears will finish 3-7. That means Collins should get his walking papers this year. Finally!

If you think we have FCS level players on defense, we are watching two different Bears. When the defense is that bad, the blame is on both the coaches and players. Just watch the players. They're incredibly soft. I mentioned a couple by name...Hatcher is overweight and slow. James Riddle is too small to play at this level. The cornerback, Cameron gets blown up by receivers on the line. ALL of them try to arm tackle.

There is two players on defense that can play at this level. Morris and Michael Walker. The rest are D2 players at best. That being said the players aren't being coached up by Jones so it's not entirely their fault.
