Digging around in topics before I joined the board and found this one. On Stan Mayhew - he did only play one year for Weber. He had been recruited out of Washington DC and enrolled in North Carolina (Charlotte, I think) at a time when an assistant there had tampered with transcripts. Stan was ruled ineligible and had to transfer to Trinidad (CO) Jr College where he had two outstanding years and still holds several school records some surpassing Spencer Haywood who also attended there. At Weber he was a total team player with a young Bruce Collins, Dave Johnson, Mark Mattos, Richard Smith and others. This was before the 3-point rule so his 45 looks even better (even better, against USU). He applied to get his year re-instated by the NCAA so he could have a senior year at Weber but at the time the NBA required underclassmen to declare themselves earlier and once declared you could not withdraw your declaration. The NCAA gave Weber the indication that they WOULD re-instate the year but the Big Sky would not give an early answer. Stan declared and was drafted by Indiana in the second round. That particular year, Indiana was struggling financially and did not sign any of their draft picks so those picks were not eligible to participate in veteran camps. Stan signed a contract with Gent (Belgium) and played many years in Europe and Israel. He would have been a great piece in a great team if things had worked out for him to stay at Weber for the 1978 season. He is a classy guy and has had great success in business in the NorthWest.
