San Jose Mercury News blog thinks griz n bobs will leave for the wac after next season.

After reading the article, it sounded like the author was merely praying that the Montana schools will join the WAC.

A blog? Seriously? Isn't a blog composed of speculation, heresay, and opinion? Don't use the readership excuse either. I don't care about SJSU, and I'm pretty sure that 98% of the 1M peeps living in San Jose area don't give a damn about SJSU either. This is blatant begging!! How embarrassing...how can I take this author seriously?

This is getting really pathetic. Why won't Thompson and the MW put the damn WAC out of its misery and add USU and SJSU. The WAC will finally die and Idalol will become the Big Sky's 14 member.

Facts:
UM isn't Title IX eligible to make a move to FBS, they are barely eligible in FCS by adding Softball.
MSU has no plans to move, their football stadium additions have nothing to do with FBS, and most importantly their fan base doesn't want a move. If their president tried she would be ridden out of Bozeman on a rail.
The WAC isn't financially solvent or viable. Oh yeah, why would you want to belong to the FBS when you have no chance at a national championship and the bowl game you might get invited too is the Branch Davidian Compound Bowl in Waco Tx?

"I have to think it (the WAC) still has Montana in its sights"

That's the quote from the article. Tell us something we don't already know. Of course they want Montana. There are no other good options. The real question is, 'does Montana have the WAC in its sights?' So far the answer has been no. But it will be interesting to see what happens in the next year. I don't think that Montana is completely happy in the Big Sky, but the WAC doesn't exactly offer anything much better, and maybe something worse depending on your opinion.

Who in their right mind thinks that Montana and Montana State want to travel to Texas many times during the sports seasons just to move to the WAC. Costs would more than double if they have to do that. With three teams in Texas they have to travel there at least twice each year for football, mens basketball, womens basketball, and then at least once per year for the remaining sports. This would be a brilliant move for the Montanas. :ohno:

If I'm Idaho, San Jose State, or USU, I'd be a little concerned about the sudden shift in balance to the Texas region.

Texas State
UT- San Antonio
UT-Arlington
Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State

It looks to me like you are beginning to see the future core of a new regional conference. How long until these schools begin to wonder why they are blowing their travel budgets to Moscow, Idaho, and San Jose, CA, when the makings for a south/southwest conference are right there?

i miss led by the title of this thread, but i couldnt help but make it more interesting than the actual subject matter. btw sir, sjsu is very relevant to the one million populous of san jose. did u not know that sjsu averaged over 1,500 in attendance last yr in basketball? they are a future power in the new wac.

  :notworthy:
