Half Season = Half-Empty/Half-Full?

So, halfway into this "first" season how are we feeling about this program? It's way early with Hill and Co. barely into their first recruiting year but how are we feeling about the overall state and direction of the program under the new staff?

I was probably overly optimistic thinking Weber might be able to pull off a 6-6 season. Things are looking a little grim at this point in the season with regards to W-L, but I'm still a fan of where the team is headed and even the play compared to last year, even with Weber having a W at this point last season.

2014 vs 2013 (after 6 games)
Record: 0-6 vs 1-5
Average Score: 21-35 (-14) vs 15-49 (-34)
Max Score (all games): 31-45 vs 50-70
Min Score (all games): 7-24 vs 3-31
Games (I feel) were competitive: 6 vs 1
Games (I feel) "coulda" won: 4 vs 1
Games I wished I hadn't wasted the time watching instead of only being disappointed in the end : 0 vs 5

In all likelihood, this goes down as another very disappointing year with regards to W-L record but every game this season has been competitive-- certainly not without many mistakes and disappointments, but competitive and (for the most part) competent football play and coaching. I'm excited about the recruiting class and the next few seasons to come. I'm a "Half-Full" fan on this one.

There was a lot of excitement with our new, energetic coaching staff. It seemed to cause many of us to have unrealistic expectations about how this years team would do. I think that we have been shown just how far down our program really was, after all of the coaching problems we have gone through.

The game Saturday was lost in the trenches and by us having a slight deficit in team speed. Football is measured in yards, but it really is a game of inches. We are very, very close to turning the corner. However, it may take another good recruiting class or two to get the job done.

We have the right coaching staff. Now, it is just a matter of hard work to get us back to being a contender. :coffee:

Other than being 0-6, to be quite honest, I'm pretty happy with the progress the team is making. The Cats look a thousand times better than they did last year. Weber is, at the very least, competitive. Cal Poly is an extremely good team, but so is Weber. The Cats are on the verge of breaking through and getting some Wins. Yes, at the start of the season, I really thought that Weber would have a couple wins by now, and headed towards the top of the conference, but there are six games left and everyone of them are winnable. The biggest issue, to me, right now, is the health of our offensive line. Turner and Crichton are both done for the season. Who knows if Wilcox will be back 100% this season. I didn't see him play on Saturday, even though he was listed at the 2 deep. Our line play was great rushing the ball, but terrible pass protecting. Green was scrambling all over the field. Granted he was tentative after the INT, and was waiting too long to make a pass, but he really didn't have a lot of time either. No matter, games are won in the trenches. Does Hill burn a red shirt of Bruce or Betancourt? Or does he go with what he has? Weber needs tackles right now. I hope the Cats can get Wilcox back and get back to having Young and Hawkins playing as the guards. Land has been the man this season.

It really stinks having to say this, but wait until next year. The Cats need some much needed depth but once they get the Sky best watch out.

To help with recruiting, the teams overall moral, and to steady the ship and prepare it for the next season, I really hope the Cats can end the season winning 4 or at least 3 out of the final 6 games. I don't see them winning all 6, but as has been pointed out, they could. The better they do, the better next year will start and go for them.

Half-Full...there's no big letdown/shock as to expectations, but justified disappointment/frustration based on POTENTIAL (Coach Hill said so on after game radio talk). Most fans know it is a work-in-progress that will take a few years to build up the depth & gain some confidence thru wins. Last half, this season, my prediction after watching other Big Sky game results so far: 3-3. As Coach Hill stated, there are some short-term fixes needed (even on the coaches part's) for the remainder, the tough part is gettin 'r' done!! Slow to or doesn't happen this season (?), then a 2-10 / 1-11 / or an embarrassing 0-12 will result. Maddening to a lot of fans, but I would say few will argue against the notion that the program is headed in the right direction. :twocents:

HALF FULL, but if I EVER see John L. I will kick him square in the nutzz for screwing over my beloved Wildcats.
Oh hell lets be honest....I will kick him more than once in the nutzz.. He best not ever come back to Ogden.
Keep in mind that WSU football is 4-25 since Ronal Mac "retired"
This coaching staff knows what the hell they are doing but it is going to take a lot more time. Also for the love of Buddha can we PLEASE get a favorable schedule out of our AD? :beef:
