HC

Not a peep anywhere I have ears.

I think it comes down to two candidates at this time, Breske and O'Boyle.

With Breske, there has to be a frantic staff building campaign at the same time player recruiting is in full swing.

While advantage to Mike for his history,

advantage O'Boyle for vowing to bring in his staff.

Collins looks to be the natural choice for the job, for all the positive things already posted, but...

What about that contract? The last guy they fired there replaced a guy that was being paid $86,000 a year which was then the second lowest HC salary in FCS.

How much is Collins getting there now, $100K? Is it going to take a $300K buyout to get him out of his contract? What kind of staff does he have ready to bring to UNC?

I personally do not think that Wristen nor Stitt were going to be on the top half of the final list.

I have no idea, but I hear someone is interview today.

Think they have completed all four interviews last week. Could be something out later today maybe.

I'm just wondering though that if all four have interviewed last week why hasn't Jay announced it yet? The only thing I can think that might be taking so long is that they're trying to negotiate a buy-out for Collins' contract. I'm crossing my fingers that it's Earnest!

Could be, one of the articles late last week said interviews would be completed last week, and a new coach would be hired asap this week.

That contract is probably a make or break deal with Collins, as we know, UNC is not flush with athletic spending money.

Tribune reporting today that an announcement may not be made until next week. WOW. The longer this is taking the longer this looks like it will be Collins. Why on earth would it take longer if it were the other 3? I was chatting with someone on egriz who supposedly knows the Breske's very well and he mentioned Mike already knows if he got the job or not. Of course he wouldn't let me know. Anyways... If I were Hinrichs and we needed to buy out his contract I would tell all those guys who were breathing down his neck - Munroe, Beck, Teerlink, etc, that if they want someone like Collins they would need to pony up the money to buy out the contract. I just wish someone on the Tribune would explore this option a little deeper. Ask people at Alcorn, ask Collins, etc, about his contract. That is the Tribune for you. They do just the basics.

I agree with your logic. The longer it takes the more you have to think it's Collins. Unless they've decided to interview more people. Someone interviewed yesterday, which would mean they are interviewing more people. I heard Carroll College (Mont.) coach Mike Van Diest may have been or may be getting an interview. Six-time NAIA champion (in past nine years).

As for someone over on egriz knowing that Breske already knows whether or not he got the job, I don't buy that. If he had it, it would be announced. If he didn't, then he's trying to play UM (get more money to stay)by not saying. I don't see that either. The poster just wants to act like he knows something we don't. I also have heard that Breske and Pflugrad are bickering, so that tactic to get a pay raise wouldn't work well if that's true.

I don't think Breske will get it. He doesn't strike me as much of a people person, which you have to be at some level to be a head coach in this day and age.

How do you know someone interviewed yesterday? Not saying you're lying or anything.

I severely doubt that Van Diest had a secret interview. UNC will not be hiring any HCs from the NAIA.

The candidates have been identified, the interviews conducted and they will announce the new coach when they are done tying up loose ends.

If it's next week, it's next week, and it will be one of the four interviewed.

Since it is the dead period in recruiting there is probably not much rush from Jay's standpoint. I still think it would be good to get it done though as the new coach could be getting his staff together and at least looking at some high school game film so he can get together his priority recruit list.

On a side note it is interesting to look at how ISU handled their change vs us. They had Kramer in place the next day it seemed like.

If the delay is related to trying to find money. What would make the most sense?

Using the money to buyout Alcorn to get Collins, or allowing one of the other candidates to hire a quality staff and close the salary gap with the other Big Sky schools?

I would be for closing the gap, and possibly making the program more than a spring board. The best success in the past was related to stability and quality of the staff.

Just my 2 cents

The Tribune article yesterday said NO candidates have heard if they had the job or not. So, that tells me it's not a contract buy-out with Collins. He would certainly know if we were trying to buy him out.

Nice scoop Otter !! I don't care what anybody says, the longer we wait for a decision the more it hurts our recruiting. They will hit the ground running!! I just thought we should of been more like ISU and would have been miles ahead!!!

Well, if Mike Kramer was still hanging around....

FWIW a poster named Grizbacker1 on egriz.com is saying that UNC is trying to round up more money for assistant coaches, so they can bring Breske in. The poster is a little strange sometimes, but he does come up with some good inside info once in a while.

You guys seem to jump around from candidate to candidate based on the most part off of emotion. Talk about offensive and defensive schemes, coaching philosophies and how that of your strong candidate will help our program win based on what we have. I would like to be persuaded to feel better about the situation as a whole.

It as been said we are close talent wise and I agree with that; translate who you think should get the job into the catagories I listed above. Do we have "Football People" on this board or just bandwagon fans?

Bring it, a good argument would make me feel a lot better!
