Head Coach Search

the unr offense is the product of chris ault the head coach, im not sure what offense klenakis would run

True, but he may run the offense just for the fact that it's what he has ran for the past 3 years

Like I have said before we need somebody who is innovative, passionate, and willing to take a risk in order to win games. I dont want to get somebody who has ran the same thing for years its not productive to what PSU's program needs to be in order to compete at the National Level. We need to progress into an explosive dynamic Offense that is unpredictable not what we have been for the last several yrs now. Our Defense developed to a high caliber but the offense has stuck to a tradition style offense with run the ball 80% of the time and pass the other 20%. It needs to be almost 50-50 so the defense has to be prepared for a pass or a run at all times and not thinking that we its gonna be a run most likely!

I think Lupfer Will be a great candidate for the job, but my concerns are who will he replace himself with and will he keep the same OC? Also will he keep the rest of the staff or will he try to recruit some new ones?

I'm getting excited to see what steps are going to made now the Walsh is gone.

Maybe someone like Jerry Glanville would fit in nicely. Didn't he coach the Falcons to the superbowl with Neon Deon and co.? He is recommended by MD and is my personal pick for HC if we can get him. He would be the kind of coach to bring back that fire to the program.

I agree, with Glanville as Head Coach. He would great the program the recognition it needs and he is a great coach. Anyone watch how much Hawaii's defense has improved since he got there. Everyone always talks about Hawaii's offense...and the should....but Hawaii's defense won a few games for them this year too. He gets more with less talent everywhere he has been. I say we contact him to see his interest!!!

Correction. Glanville coached Atlanta to the playoffs but lost to my Skins in 1991. They were the 2 Legit 2 Quit except to the Redskins team. In a perfect world we would have both Mouse and Glanville in our staff next year but wishful thinking can't do the wonders it leads us to promise.

After reading the article in the O today, I'm pleasantly surprised at the breadth and quality of interested candidates as well as the number of folks like Mouse with PSU ties who seem to genuinely care about the progress of the program.

I read the article too. Glanville would bring a lot of legitimacy to the program, and probably more fans too. If Davis were to court him to the point we could get him, I would be very pleased.

Glanville is obviously a good coach, and the publicity he'd bring would be a major bonus. Even 1080 would be hard pressed to find a reason to not mention PSU.Last edited by on 2007-02-22, 16:31; edited 1 time in total

Is Glanville really the smart choice though? I don't question for a minute that he is legit. Let's just take some time and think about this. Is he really a guy that will come and take us to the next level or would this be a quick stop on the way to somewhere else? Just an honest question?
I have heard Don Bailey from Montana State as well, would that be wise to bring in someone from that staff. I think he played for Mouse but with all of the off the field terrible publicity at MSU would we look good hiring a guy off of that staff? Football players selling drugs and such, they are losing 3 scholies from football as well from poor academics. Not to put any or all of it on Bailey but when you are on the staff you are lumped in with it.
My vote is for either Jay Locey from OSU but I doubt he would want it or Mark Speckman from Willamette.

Just because Mouse says Glanville is willing doesn't mean that money doesn't matter to the Elvis Lover. There's a hint that Mouse is pulling a leg or two IMO.

OTOH, if you think you're making ANYONE a 10-year hire as PSU head coach, forget it. If the coach does well, he's moving on in 3 years anyway; just make a point of letting this hire know that he's responsible for the next people in line. That's something that works in Boise and transferable anywhere.

I do think Glanville would sell some tickets, and that's more important at the moment. The ethos in play is bigger than him, however. Whomever gets hired sets up the next man.

I agree, hopefully we find a guy that can be commited though

The Fan asked Dan to come onto the program today for an interview. He declined and the show ripped PSU a new one. I guess kicking PSU around in the media is the thing to do these days. :-\
