Hennessey transfers to CWU

With Reilly Hennessey transferring to CWU that leaves us with only two active QBs on the roster going into Spring camp. The other two will be true Freshman next year which doesn't leave us with much depth. Assuming Gubrud is the starter next year and Barriere is the backup, do you pull a redshirt from one of the upcoming Freshmen? Tough position to be in.

Personally, I would leave the redshirt on and wait. If Gubrud or Barriere gets hurt, pull the redshirt. If not, then there is no reason to burn it. The chances of both getting hurt at the same time are possible, but very very slim. Our OL does too good of a job to let that happen.

Agreed. You keep the redshirt on both of them and keep it on unless one of the top 2 get injured. If that happens your hand is kind of forced but otherwise there's no logical reason to pull a redshirt from one of them.

Since it was mentioned... I'll open this can of worms.

Does anyone see a real possibility that EB is the starter next year over Gage?

With a new Qb's coach coming in, and EB3's development on the rise I would say anything is possible. The few practices that I was able to attend last year saw a very athletic and impressive EB3 as a redshirt. I would say it is similar to the end of last year when some felt the job was Hennesey's, some felt it was West's and some felt Gabrud was going to step in.

Its Gubruds to lose...he should be the man, he had a helluva year. But...EB3 looks like a beast, should be some great competition this year, but don't you have to give it to your returning starter who was a Payton Finalist? I think Gage and EB are the two best in the Big Sky...

Gubrud will be the man going into Spring Ball, but from what I'm hearing about EBIII's talents it's going to be one hell of a competition. I think it'll be similar to 2012 when VA was just too good to keep off of the field.

+1 no need to pull any redshirts unless someone gets injured.

i was sorry to see this today. RH has the talent to be a starter on any team in the Big Sky. we're a victim of our own success in that regard. good luck to him and I hope he tears it up at Central.

We're suddenly think at QB. We all know how good Gubrud is but I get nervous having a QB that runs as much as he does. Hopefully Barrier is as good as everyone has been saying.
