He's Gone

He isn't god.........Life goes on...If he can't convince Higgins, Burks, etc to stay, hes in deep trouble.

I agree. We will move forward and still get into the tourney next year. He won't succeed in Boulder. They don't invest in basketball there. The good news is: We can hire a guy that would be making Tad's new salary that Jay was about to offer. Second, we have good assistants who might have been more instrumental in bringing some of our studs here. I hope they apply and I hope they don't follow Tad.

This really bums me out. He was a good coach who knew how to get the community involved. We are losing a great coach and a great spokesperson for UNC athletics.

And screw CU, they can't beat us so they won't play us and now they take our coach.

I gotta say this is something that I feared could happen but didn't really think was going to happen. I thought McClain would get the job and that would be the end of it. I'm am pretty disappointed right now.. This just ruined my ENTIRE DAY!!!!!!!!

I'm bummed too. I guess it was just lip service. He didn't care about UNC at all.

I think he cared because it was his job to care. My guess is, the only school he really cares about is Kansas.

Boyle did care but he can also make about 6 times the amount of money that he can at UNC and in his eyes a big 12 school has much better chance to get to and advance in the tournament. He also has the assets such as the new basketball practice facility that is being built. This is going to kill our recruiting! The really bad thing is that when Bzdelik left Mike Bohn said it was at the worst time because of recruiting and now it comes back to haunt us too!

Hard to turn down probably 6-times the money and still being able to live within an hour or so of home (Greeley). If anyone offered any of you that deal in your personal life, you'd take it.

What will be interesting is the hire. This could be the thing that ultimately costs Hinrichs his job if he gets the wrong person. Hinrichs has done two successful things at UNC - (1) facility improvements and (2) the men's hoops hire. And we all know the only reason he was successful in that hire was because Boyle was from Greeley. I think it'll be hard to get anybody near Boyle's level in there (they should promote from within actually).

But if Hinrichs makes the wrong hire (after botching the football one), it could bite him in the butt.

I don't think you can give Jay much/any credit for getting Tad. Apparently it took others while he was laid up after undergoing leg surgery to convince Tad to come to Greeley.

That being said, I believe you are right, this is a make or break deal for Jay but we may never know because if the football team stinks this season, he could be on his ass before we play another basketball game.

This is part of the price we pay with success at our level. The good news is that it will be easier to find a good replacement coach now that all prospective candidates know that at UNC, they too will just be a good season away from getting a top college job at the big money schools. It would have been hard for a coach in the old division II days to get a job like this. After all, it's just a business and it was a good move for coach Boyle to take a huge salary increase for him and his family. In this wacky world of college sports I guess we just have to roll along with the ups and downs. I feel that we have good players that will step up and do well next year with our new coach. It might even be good for the team to take what they learned from coach Boyle and put that together with the ideas of a new fresh coach and make it even a better program. PSU didn't crumble when their coach left for Washington St. last year. It would be nice to see UNC get to the Big Dance next year and CU would have to watch us on TV.

I think there is a better chance for UNC to get to the dance next year than Colorado and maybe the years to come as well. When was the last time CU played in the NCAA's?

Exactly my thoughts too. No one wins in Boulder. The Big 12 will eat him alive.

As much as he was dissed, Ricardo Patton did a nice job at CU.......2 NCAAs and 4 NITs. Tad isn't going to be expected to win the conference......If he can get CU to a consistent top 6-7 team in league (from 9th at worst now---Oklahoma, Iowa State, and Nebraska are all below them--I'd put them on the same level with Texas Tech) he'll do fine at CU.

I agree, once he gets his recruits in 2-5 years, CU will do really well.

sux to see your coach leave who was building something to be proud of but just like the rest of us who wouldnt take a job making double/triple...or more a year.

maybe on the bright side this means that CU will start playing UNC every year and have a legit instate rivalry between the DI's in your state like Weber has with USU/Utah/BYU.
