Holt Arena Turf

Painting the seats would be a nice touch. Putting translucent panels on the north and south sides of the dome, the roof, or both to let natural light in would be a huge improvement. Does anyone know if ISU has looked into the cost of doing that?

I don't know the costs, but I know that Idaho was looking into doing the same for the Kibbie Dome. There was a YouTube video on it a long time ago...

I do know that it would probably be expensive--the glass would have to retain heat as well as let in sunlight, and would have to be maintained with care. It's a brilliant idea but at the same time it's expensive. I'd say put it on the shelf for now.

But yes, I'm all for painting the seats. Perhaps the same pattern in which the basketball bleachers? With the old school IS logo? Hell yeah!

No need for glass. I don't believe the side panels of the dome are insulated, so we just need translucent plastic of some sort.

I haven't been inside the Kibbie Dome since they put in translucent panels, but would be interested to hear some opinions from those who have.

The turf project is way ahead of schedule and couldn't look any better.. This morning I walked around on it and even without the rubber infill, it is already softer and spongier than the old turf.. I cant wait for football season to start any longer!

I don't know if anyone ever answered the original question...but ISU will not be cutting up the old turf. After football season, they'll store the new turf, and roll out the old turf like they always have if they need a carpet in the dome.

It looks like they are ahead of schedule. The turf is really coming together. I love the machine that spreads the rubber stuff. I want to drive it!!!
