Hornet Stadium Press Box Replacement - CEQAnet
https://ceqanet.opr.ca.gov › ...

Sep 3, 2020 — The project consists of replacing an existing press box with no change in location or purpose and substantially the same capacity.

The Sac State football radio announcers (Steve, Jason and Danny) mentioned it at the end of the South Dakota game. They said the project would begin on December 27th.

This seems like a pretty big deal that just somewhat flew under the radar? Does anyone have more info on it?

I wonder if this will visually change Hornet home side in a big way. Maybe not, as the update is for only ONE press box?

According to records provided by the University:

Project Costs: $6,062,000
Construction Costs: $4,268,000

GSF: 3,000

Hornet Stadium Renovations
This project will renovate the Hornet Stadium (#60) to bring it into compliance with ADA seating requirements and will repair/replace the existing press box. The existing press box has dry rot from exposure to the elements. This project will replace existing wood decking with aluminum decking on the upper level of the stadium including repair/replacement of supporting beams. This project will improve ADA compliant seating in the east bleachers and ADA access to all bleachers. This project will also update telecom and electrical systems to current CSU standards.

Yup, that’s how I found out about it. I quoted Josephpoint and brought it to its own thread.

But that’s the first and only time I’ve heard it brought up.

School should really be marketing this. New press boxes (one? Wording is weird in all the officials papers I read, if all the press boxes will be renovated/new) drastically changes the stadium

There’s info on the West (away) side renovation also
Including Event Center info

The reason, IMHO, the school never announces athletic facility improvements is because of the far left, woke non-binary people who will throw a hissy, infantile tantrum because athletics is getting $$ and not the liberal studies whose degrees are useless.

Forever a bridesmaid and never the bride.

Part of this press box upgrade should go toward getting the speakers off the track, where they deafen everybody within sitting distance and also create a sightline-blocking eyesore. And get a new PA guy at the same time. The current one is horrible, and I'm tired of him killing my ears....

The quality of speakers can definitely use improvements. Updating the technology is a big part of the renovation, which I hope leads to better cameras. Our production isn’t the worst in the Big Sky, but we can always improve.

My first thought was they haven’t publicized it because of the hassle of dealing with anti-athletics types, since they greatly outnumber us. The program is working to build enough prestige to be able to announce crap like this, hopefully.

Thought the link in the above post would take you directly to the Big Sky football stadiums
but you need to put that in the SEARCH field once the link opens. Sorry about that . The videos are rotating among various conferences. Pretty cool to see all the stadiums. .

I’m confused, the West side is the home side. The East is the Away side.

I saw nothing other than the mention of the home side press box repairs. What did I miss?

Also, regarding the 6K seat Event Center — is that finally happening? Or is it still in limbo and just a pipedream? I’ve never seen or heard confirmation or any type of announcement.

Lastly and tangential to the stadium repairs, I’d love to see the Hornets bring in end zone bleachers to the North and/or South ends of the stadium. Have any of you seen a De La Salle home game? Youtube one. They have nice sized bleachers on one end zone that extends over the track and field area but apparently doesn’t damage it.

I think it’d be awesome to do the same at Hornet Stadium during Football games bringing some fans closer to the field (student section, perhaps?) and make it louder when opponents are nearing that end zone. Just an idea I’d thought about when recently watching a HS playoff game.

Here’s a image so you get the idea:

Oh you mean like today when the State Hornet called for Nelsen to resign because of all the racism on campus? Seriously,? Try living in the South.

So the Event Center is listed as being funded by “Aux” funds. Which essentially means that it doesn’t have concrete funding yet from my understanding. It could also mean that it might have to come from private money. Which, unlike the Hornet Stadium renovations, draws from “Designated Campus Funds” and “SYSTEMWIDE REVENUE BONDS” from Academic Programs. The positive thing we can take from this is that they have actual costs tie to this, and it’s on official published reports both at the Sac State and CSU level.

As far as the stands in the end zone, I agree 100%. Can bring it back to the Sacramento Surge days, where we did have end zone stands and our officials capacity was up to 26,000. Had the remove them because the CFL required a bigger end zone.

My mistake, you are correct. West Side*

I really hope that the renovation of the Press Box includes the appearance also and not just structural. It’d be nice to have a glass press box like most other schools instead of our current wooden boxes. I hope the 6mil+ price tag covers that!

2025/2026 NEW stadium?

Looks like there’s funding for a 40+million dollars stadium *renovation* on the books for 2025/2026. :notworthy:

For some perspective, Davis’ Aggie Stadium built in 2007 (14 years ago, so cost is drastically different now) was around 30million. That’s a brand new stadium. So I’d expect Hornet stadium to be gutted and be practically brand new.

The big question is, will we finally move the track into the practice field or somewhere else? Or is the USATF ties to big to overcome?

Where are you seeing this info? Even if true, I don’t see 40M accomplishing much. But at least we’d likely finally have real restrooms and end zone bleachers. ;)

$40M might go farther than you think considering the accessibility of of the stadium to the road, minimal ground prep. Once the erector set stands and bathroom trailers were moved, site prep would be practically done.

I think the track would almost have to stay as it's relatively new and the AD probably has dreams of bringing the trials back to Sacramento.

At this price point, a carbon copy of Mackay Stadium (https://www.unr.edu/around-campus/mackay-stadium) would be feasible.
