The Calgary Stampeders just cut DE George Obinna, although they note that he will remain in Calgary to rehab an injury. This was part of a string of end-of-training-camp moves they made to get under the roster limit.

The BC Lions have signed a fourth quarterback (Antonio Pipkin out of D-II Tiffin), and are planning to hold Kevin Thomson out of their second preseason game. No word on if he's injured (they're not posting injury lists until the regular season) or if they're planning to cut Thomson. FYI: The Lions list his school as Sac State, but they don't show a picture on his bio page. Also on the roster are Canadian QBs Michael O'Connor (U. of British Columbia) and Nathan Rourke (Ohio). Just looking at the website, I'm thinking that if Thomson doesn't start Game 1, it'll be O'Connor.

Regarding Kevin Thomson, he was hurt towards the end of BC's first preseason game at Calgary.

Transactions announced by the BC Lions this morning, no mention of Kevin Thomson. No news is good news?

BSCfan:

It seems that you are correct. As of tonight, Thomson is listed on the injury report as OUT, with some sort of left shoulder injury. Per the article you posted, it was some sort of cheap shot by a Calgary DB on a blitz. Thomson had supposedly earned the backup job prior to the injury, and the Lions seem committed to him, even though he's expected out for a significant chunk of time. The Lions expect to open the season with the first all-Canadian pair of QBs in recent memory in starter Nathan Rourke (FBS/MAC Ohio U) and Michael O'Connor (NAIA/Canada West British Columbia). They've picked up American Antonio Pipken (D-II Tiffin) to serve as the emergency quarterback.
