Just tuned in and Sac had it on their own 3. Nice drive so far but I don't know why Croxdale was in on 3rd and 1 unless Hilliard got hurt.

Heath has a short punt and NAU takes over on their own 24.

NAU fumble!!! Hornet ball!!!!! On the NAU 23!!!!

False start to start the drive. 1st and 15. Richardson catches a 6 yard pass. 2nd and 9. Norrise with a nice gain. 3rd and short. Toss to Hilliard and he takes it to the 1. Punch this in Hornets!!!

Toss to Croxdale gets nothing. Just give it to Hilliard. Is it that hard? There it is. I formation give to Hilliard and he goes untouched for a TD. 7-0 Hornets. 5:56 left in the 1st qtr. Way to cash a turnover in for 7.
 
Following on the livestats link through NAU's athletics page. Lots of penalties on both sides so far. Sac State's winning the turnover battle to begin and NAU's starting out the game under the fog of a Washington-Grizzly Stadium hangover. That or a tequila sunrise/homecoming hangover.

YES!!! another NAU fumble!!!! Hornet ball on the NAU 27!!!!

Norrise picks up 14 on a reverse. Richardson makes a catch and is down inside the NAU 5. Hilliard takes it to the 1. 2nd and goal. Give it to him again. TD Hilliard!!!! From the I form again!!!!
 
Wow. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't do the drive up the mountain today? This is quickly turning into a cluster****.

Still tons of time left. If anything this Hornet team does not know how to finish.
 
Hornet D stuffs Beauman for a short gain. 2nd and long. NAU bubble screen gets it close to a 1st down. 3rd and short. Bauman gets the 1st down for NAU.
 
Champan drops a 12 yard pick up. 2nd and 10 for NAU. NAU on their own 32. Shanks gets about 8 on a bubble screen. 3rd and short. WOW! Shanks had a step on his guy and Stangel over throws it. 4th and 4. NAU to punt. Touchback. Hornets take over on their own 20.

With a 14 point lead Sperbeck decides to go to his bag of trick for an end around that loses 5. Richardson gets 5 and its now 3rd and 9. NICE! Fleming avoids the sack and find Carter for a huge gain. 1st down on the NAU 38. End of 1st qtr. 14-0 Sac.

Richardson with a nice catch for about 4 yards on 1st down. NAU is blitzing a lot. Fleming pass falls incomplete. 3rd and 6.
 
Ugh. Even with Herrick in this has not been the season on offense that NAU had last year. Losing the top 3 receivers from last year has been apparent and there have been a lot of drops/missed routes so far. This is about the worst start to a game, though.

Fleming seems to be quite a serviceable number 2 QB.
 
NICE! Another 3rd down conversion. Fleming finds Norrise for a big gain. Hornet ball on the NAU 10. Bubble screen to Norrise gets no gain. The pass was low and Norrise wasnt able to get a head of steam. YES!! Nice play action and Fleming finds Richardson!!! 21-0 13:02 left in the half.

Hornets give up a big return. NAU takes it to their own 30. Herrick is in the game. Herrick hits a man for a 5 yard gain. False start negates that pick up. 2nd and 10. Short pick up. 3rd and 3. 1st down on a bubble screen. Herrick overthrows a wide open WR that would have been 7. Bubble screen gets a decent pick up. 3rd and 4. Catch but its short. NAU probably goes here. 4th and 1 and a half. Dixon picks up the 1st down.
 
Herrick in? Hmm....desperation? I'd prefer they ensure the kid is 100% before putting him in 2 weeks after surgery. I'm not on the sidelines so I don't know the whole story but it sounds a big odd to me.

What an inauspicious start by the Lumberjacks. 3 yard pass on 3rd and 4...crap.

This NAU team has a different swagger with Herrick in. This game is far from over.

NAU picks up 3 after a false start. 2nd and 12. YES!!! Sac fumble and the Hornets get it!!!!

Broken plan and Fleming keeps it for a minimal gain. 2nd and long ball at midfield. Croxdale with a nice gain. 3rd and short. Hilliard right at the first down marker. 1st down without a measurement.

I can imagine after you watched the Hornets-Bobcats game earlier this year you truly believe no game is ever over til the whistle. It's been frustrating but fun as a fan to have such close Big Sky Conference games this year.

Another fumble. Wow.
