Hornets part II

This thursday Weber State welcomes Sacramento State to Ogden, maybe normaly a game that we can look at as a gimmie, but hold on folks not so fast.

Sacramento State is easily the hottest team in the conference right now, having won 7 of thier last 8 (thanks in part mostly to 6 of them being at home) but never the less they are coming off a 21 point beatdown of Northern Colorado, and I dont care how terrible of a road team UNC is, that is still impressive. This is easily the best Hornet team I have seen since I became a true purple Wildcat, and even though we will be in the very friendly confines of the Dee, the Hornets will be coming in on a mission to get what would only be thier 2nd win in Ogden in 21 tries.

Weber will need to play lights out to keep from getting upset again by Sacramento State, a lot of people would be like "it's only Sac State" not this year my friends

Im predicting a close game till about the 8 minute mark when Weber Starts to pull away.

Weber State- 71 Sacramento State- 59

Sac has had success playing at home, but does have some weaknesses: defensively they give up a lot of points, and do not defend perimeter shots as well as other BSC teams. Weber should be able to run our offensive sets and take this game.

They have sky-high confidence now, but if Weber can get up on them, that will deflate....Look at how they took NC out of their game on Saturday.

For Comparison: Sac took Weber to o/t to win, but beat NC by 21 in regulation - shows what some confidence can do....

Predicition for Thursday: Weber 81, Sac State 59

Go Wildcats!

If Hillary Clinton is where renobs go to die, then @ Weber is where Stingers up, go stingers down.

Heyoh22 is exactly right. Weber by 20 - 30 . It won't take a 75 footer to decide this one, especially if the 3's start falling from the get go.

I'm with Wildcat on this one. Thursday's game is going to be a lot closer than any of us want it to be.

Sac, even if it was a lucky shot, beat us at their place. But that game shouldn't have been that close in the first place. Weber was lucky to have gotten the game to OT. During the game I kept thinking to myself that Weber was lucky to even stay close. Katz's had his guys up for the game and the Hornet defense was on. They had a match up zone that was pushing Weber's guards at least 5' off the three line on almost every possession. We were taken completely off guard. When they tried to play man Weber owned them, but when they went to a 3 quarters trap and their matchup zone, the Cats really struggled.

Weber will see that press and zone again on Thursday. I hope the Cats are ready.

I agree that this is a confident team we are facing. So I think we need to heckle Mr. Garrity on Thursday night. Upon brief analysis, I see a striking resemblance between Dylan Garrity and Lucky the Leprecahn. Anyone who can drain a 75 footer is pretty lucky. What do you all think?

Hahaha...amazing!! Aye, me lucky charms!!

I think signs that say 1.6 on them would sum up Mr. Garrity's luch. I know the Big Sky, under the watchful eye of Pro Ref Casas, missed big time on that miracle shot. No way he got that shot off in .7 seconds. It is what it is, past and over now. Still an amazing shot. Even if it isn't possible in .7 secs.

Sac is playing with super confidence, and Weber shouldn't underrate Katz. The guy is a damn good coach. He has mostly overachieved while being at Sac. If you've ever been to the Nest, you'd understand. That place is pathetic. Hard to get players to go to Sac with the garbage they have to play and train in. The old Tiger Pit was twice as big as the Nest is now. High School gym from the 30s...

Please do not mention that particular official, I am fearful that like a bad penny, he will turn up again at the Dee this season.

And, if by providence, take a look at the officiating crew for the Montana/Idaho State game Saturday.....Yep, he was there!

Who else would call a foul on a Jamaar flop?? It was one of his worst flops in four years at Montana. Worst flop ever and he still got to the FT line. Gotta love Casas!!

By the way...has anyone else noticed that the Montana guards consistently fall down whenever they drive to the basket?

One poster has the Hornets winning in Ogden this week.

The team can see that winning the conference is very real right now. Win these next 2 home games and at worst we win a share of the title. Coming off a good road win, I predict our boys come out focused and hungry these next 2 games. Sac is playing really well and NAU has some good players so you never know, but I think we really bring the hammer Thursday and Saturday. Right now its all about the Hornets. They looked great against the Bears. I watched the second half. The Bears didn't even show up so I'm sure that helped the Hornets look so good. Give Sac St. credit though, they are playing great. Still coming to the Dee will be very tough and don't think for a second our guys have forgot the 75 footer that beat us last game. They played amazing and for most of the game we played like crap. I predict we come out firing on all cylinders and win by 15. Berry and Tres both have huge games. 78-63.

In regard to the ISU/UM game, when is the BSC going to get smart and have the FBI look into Jimmy Casas' gambling habits, as they relate to how he calls a game. His calls at the end of games are quite suspicious, to say the least. I would be very surprised if there are not some underlying motivations for his behavior. It can't all be accounted for by his stupidity. When a highly suspicious call happens in the BSC, you can bet that Jimmy had the whistle in his mouth. It isn't just WSU that gets the JOB out of Jimmy. Most of our teams have felt that sting.

If we do get him for one of our games, in the future, we should find out who he is betting for, or at least taking money for, and bet with him. Even if it is against our own team. I just wish the BSC would announce where he will be and we knew how to buy off his bookie or controller.

Jimmy...UGH!! He isn't gambling. His calls are purely based on incompetence. What does that tell you about the Big Sky Conference, that continues, YEAR AFTER YEAR, to hire him?

They have done really well lately. Their last loss occurred on Feb 13 at Eastern Washington. Since losing to UNCO in Greeley, the Hornets have been averaging close to 75 a game. This is helped by the fact that the Hornets have played 6 of the last 8 at home. They did beat, a Jeckyll and Hyde team in Portland after losing in Cheney.

The biggest reason for the Hornets success, of course is their guard line of Mikh and Dylan. But, their front court of Eric Stuteville, Alex Tiffin, Zack Mills, and Jordan Salley have really impressed over the last few weeks. The Hornets are a fairly young team. They only have three seniors, two together almost average as much as the third (Salley 14.9min a game, other two 11min per game). They are getting confidence and starting to really play well under the guiding hands of Garrity and McKinney. Stuteville has a lot of upside, only a Freshman, and Tiffin is finally playing like he was recruited. Shockingly, Sac matches up surprisingly well with Weber. Should be a great game on Thursday.

Tal;

I'm giving Jimmy the benefit of the doubt on his intelligence. To be as mentally handicapped as his game would indicate, he shouldn't be able to run the floor with a whistle in his mouth without choking on his foot.

The key to beating Sac is making sure that their guards have to work extremely hard for everything they get and to get all of the rebounds on the defensive end.

We really should beat them handily. However, we can't take them for granted, or anyone else for that matter.

Honestly, I think we win going away. WSU 89 - Sac 69

The real attendance was closer to 6,000. It looked half full at best. Maybe those fathead posters of coach and Berry count for a few hundred fans each.

Looked like 7,500 to 8,000 to me, like some other games this year. Weird vibe, whistles & flow kept crowd on the quieter side compared to most of the games this season.
