Hornets vs. Weber

JFC. 3rd and 5 and the play call is a pussified zone coverage 10 yards off of the ball. WTF!

Terrible no call on the holding on a WSU OLman. WSU turns it into a huge gain. FVCK.

Back to back incompletion's. 3rd and 10 for WSU. Huge. False start on WSU. 3rd and 15 on the Hornet 32. Please dear God please don't run zone coverage. YES!. They blitz and WSU doesn't convert. 4th and 15. WSU is going for it. Nice. Higgins forced to run. They don't convert...BUT PENALTY. Late hit out of bounds. Terrible. But somehow the Hornets get the ball though? I thought a personal foul give the offense an automatic 1st down. Oh well. Hornets take over on their own 11. 5 minutes left in the 3rd.

FVCK! The Hornets are imploding. McCowan takes a pitch around the end for 15 yards but is called back on a holding on Deader. :x

Hilliard picks up 4. 2nd and 8.

Not stopping it? Sac hasn't gotten a first down this half....
Penalties have killed the Hornets so far. 3rd and long. Fleming missed a wide open Richardson. Hornets to punt. Complete turn around at half time.

WOW! Schrader decks a WR and knocks lose a possible long completion. 3rd and long for WSU. Higgins throws it in the dirt. 4th and long. WSU to punt. Huge defensive stand.

WSU downs it on the 1. Monson let it bounce, not sure of he could have got there though as they kicked it away from him.

The Hornet O looks lost and out of step. Fleming uses a TO. 2nd and 10 from their own 1 looming. 2:32 left in the 3rd.

YES! PI on WSU. Deader and a DB went up for a jump ball. The WSU DB completely mugged Deader. 1st and 10 ball on the Hornet 16.

Hilliard loses 3 on the play. WSU has completely keyed in on the run on every 1st down now. Deader was wide open on a deep out and Fleming missed him. 3rd and 14. Wow a draw play. The Hornet O is simply not playing to win. Hornet punt almost blocked. ROUGHING THE KICKER!!! 1st down Hornets! HUGE!

The predictable 1st down run to Hilliard nets 1 yard. WOW. Fleming burns a 2nd TO with 4 seconds left in the 3rd. No idea if they had enough time on the play clock but that is poor game management. YES! Hilliard goes over 100 yards on a draw play. Hornet 1st down when the 4th quarter starts.

Terrible 3rd and 2 play call. Should have run it right over the guard instead of the stretch. Diniz for a 43 yard FG...and he drills it. 17-10 Hornets.

Bolen busts another huge KO return. Hornet players lost contain. Terrible. WSU ball on the WSU 47. 11:40 left.

First down WSU to the Hornet 40. The DL is just to slow to catch Higgins in the open field. WSU drops a sure pick up of 15, 2nd and 10. A pass out in the flat goes for a loss of 1. 3rd and 11 for WSU.

WSU picks it up and gets to the Hornet 25. 1st and 10 for WSU. A Tafuna run gets 3. 9:25 left, 2nd and 7 for WSU. Incomplete. 3rd and 7 for WSU. Timeout Hornets. They have no more. :|

WSU gets a completion but get a great spot. Measurement coming...Just short. 4th and 6 inches. WSU will no doubt go for it. They could go big here and play action for a TD. This is a tough decision. Hornets stuff it. Depends on the spot...wow replay looks to me like he didn't even reach the line of scrimmage...wow 1st down. Hell of a spot.

FVCK. TD WSU. 17 all. 8:15 left. Hornet O needs to score here.

Great return by McCowan. Hornets take over at their own 45.

I don't know what they said on radio, but we just got screwed on a spot that led to a TD!!!!
I think so. Replay showed he barely got back to the line of scrimmage.

Hilliard is carrying this team. Solid work by the OL as well. Another Hilliard carry picks up 3. 2nd and 7. Run to Hilliard on 2nd down is stuffed for a loss of 1. 3rd and 8. Hornets have yet to convert a 3rd down. YES! Reed for a huge 1st down!!!

Option read out of the shotgun and Fleming keeps it for a 9 yard gain. Ball on teh WSU 10. Hilliard picks up the 1st down. 1st and goal on the WSU 6. Fleming rolls out of the shotgun and keeps it and gets to the 5. 2nd and goal.

TD Hilliard!!! Hilliard bounces a run to the outside and goes in untouched. 24-17 Hornets late in the 4th.

Nice kickoff to an up-man. WSU starts out on their own 30. No big return given.

WOW. Huge bullet dodged there. Higgins missed Phillips deep. Phillips had a step. Draw play gets WSU 3. 3rd and 7 for WSU. No idea about the time. False start WSU!!! 3rd and 12. 2:36 left.

Smith knock away a pass. 4th and 12. WSU will go. Here is teh ball game. Hornets HOLD!!!!! 1st down Hornets!!!

Give it to Hilliard 3 times. Make WSU use all 3 timeouts and let Diniz ice this thing!

1:55 left. 2nd and 7 gets nothing. WSU burns its 2nd TO. 3rd and long. Ballsy CALL!!! Sperbeck calls a pass and Deader pulls it down!!! Hornet ball on the 1 inch line.

FLEMING!!! dont extend the ball!!! WSU burns its last TO. 2nd and goal from the 1 inch line. Hornets milk the clock.

HORNETS WIN!!!!!!!! 24-17 FINAL!!!! HUGE WIN!!!! Well done players and coaches.

WOW. Looking at the box score here are a few things:

-Sac won the time of possession 35 minutes to 25.
-Held WSU to 95 yards on 25 carries.
-Held WSU to only (yes only given what Higgins racked up the past two weeks) 253 pass yards and 2 TD.
-Higgins was picked once. WSU fumbled once as well but didn't lose it.
-Both teams were horrific on 3rd down. The difference had to be Sac converting 3rd downs when it mattered most.
-0 sacks on Higgins, Hornets only allowed 1. The more I think about it, the more it felt like the Hornet front 4 was a half step away from at least getting contact on Higgins.

-Penalties and yards were about even, but WSU had many costly penalties that kept a Hornet drive alive that started on our own 1 yard line. I don't remember if we scored on it but it definitely turned the field position battle at least. (Was this the FG drive?)

-Hats off the Hornet D. We needed them to step up big and they did. Great job!!!

-Only 6,937 showed up. This needs to improve. It should with this win.

I'll provide my formal write up hopefully by tomorrow. It's time to enjoy this win. 8-) :D

AWESOME game by the defense! Containing Higgins to 17 points is a flatout great effort.

I also think Fleming is doing a bangup job considering his Hornet experience, once he has his timing down he will be very good. And the dude can scoot.

I bet the Griz are pissed right about now, it would be sweet to go up there and sting them for the first time.

The ghost of Ricky Ray is with Fleming, avenge, avenge!!

Way to go Hornets. I saw a tremendous effort on both sides of the ball out there and it was a complete team victory. Huggins is a fantastic QB and gets rid of the ball so fast...probably the best QB in the BSC. The defense was able to stop him just enough to win this game and that is all you can ask because he is a beast.

Speaking of beasts, Hilliard played like one as well. Great game plan by Sperbeck to control the clock by running and run we did. Fleming is really a godsend for us and he did a nice job managing the game. Much better decisions, no interceptions thrown, and made a couple of huge third down conversions.

Finally, the defense... they really showed a terrific effort and are coming together very nicely. We had a good push up front, our linebackers were making plays, and we had some nice pass breakups. This defense will keep getting better and better. Schrader made a huge hit last night to knock the ball loose from a receiver.

And hats off to Chris Deniz, who continues to amaze me with his accurate leg as he hits a 43 yard field goal last night and is now 15 for 16 on field goal attempts.

This should be a big confidence booster as the Hornets go up to play the Griz. The Griz will be angry and motivated after dropping two close ones. What a sweet time it would be to finally break through the Griz jinx and drop another big L on them in their house. These Hornets can do it if they play smart, but it will take everything they have. Great job Hornets and go beat those Griz!!!!!!

Congrats on the big win.

Thanks SloStang, tough game against TXST. Were you at the game in SM?
Was going to go, but it did not work out. Kind of glad now.

We got a real tough road ahead. McNeese State next week and then Fresno State followed by a cross country trip to Old Dominion and we finish with a two day bus trip to take on a much improved Southern Utah team. Schedules like this is what makes me so excited that we are going to play in the Big Sky.

If Sac State beats Montana next week, that place is going to explode. When is the last time Montana has lost three straight games? I really think Sac State can. Best of luck. I be watching on Big Sky TV.
